‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 3 Ruined This Relationship, and It’s Infuriating

June 5 brought one of the biggest blessings of the year so far, and it’s amazing, but it’s also beyond infuriating. Two things can be true at the same time, they say. Our beloved Ginny & Georgia is back, but this time around, everything is different. Relationships are undergoing drastic changes, people are suffering tremendously, and some insane stories are going viral online. Sounds nothing like the cheesy high school interactions and awkward mother-daughter conversations from Season 1 and 2? That was seemingly the goal.

Netflix just released the third season of Ginny & Georgia, and it is insane, to say the least. The series basically grew up (although it skipped a few grades) and went from childish bickering to actually tackling sensitive subjects and exploring very complicated relationships. Next to Georgia being locked up in prison for the murder of Tom Fuller and her whole criminal past being plastered all over the internet (fun, fun, fun), romances burst up and friendships crumbled. The predominant sentiment is that the people who Georgia thought would have her back didn’t. Well, specifically her first love and ex-boyfriend/fiancé of many, many times, Zion.

Georgia and Zion Had a Deep Connection

Georgia and Zion in Ginny & Georgia

Netflix

Zion had been a part of Georgia’s life even before Ginny was in the picture. The two go way back. Like really way back. They met when Georgia was on the run, trying her hardest to live a better life far away from the trauma she suffered because of her father trying to kill her and her mother when she was little, and even further away from the abuse she experienced at the hands of her stepfather. She had a tough childhood, but adulthood didn’t get any easier. Amidst the search for some sort of stability, support, and connection, the paths of the two teens crossed.

13 Teen Drama Series From the 2000s to Binge on Streaming

The 2000s was a perfect time for lovers of teen dramas, and many of the classics are streaming on major platforms.

The series proved that Zion and Georgia clicked. Neither of them was a stranger to criminal behavior, and Zion was running in odd circles himself for a while. However, Zion came from a good family with high expectations and little to no room for errors. When Georgia, a teen without a home, a job, a family, or an education, was expecting her first child, Ginny, Zion’s parents offered (maybe forced would be a better choice of words, though) to take custody of Ginny, and from there everything only got more complicated between Georgia and Zion. As a result of the parental and financial pressure, Georgia repeatedly disappeared without any warning and took Ginny with her, but Zion always welcomed her back in whenever she returned. Zion even said it himself:

“I will not save you; you will do that yourself.”

Zion Turned Against Georgia in the Cruelest Way

Diesel La Torraca and Antonia Gentry as Austin and Ginny in Ginny & Georgia

Netflix

Sure, complaining that Zion broke Georgia’s trust might be a bit too hypocritical, considering Georgia kept many, many, (like, so many) things from him and made up stories pretty much daily. She even supported, sometimes even gently forced, her children to follow her cue and feed Zion lies. It could be seen as a sign of questionable parenting, but let’s not forget that Zion wasn’t the perfect father either.

The bingeworthy Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia made it particularly clear that Ginny is Zion’s priority. He moved on from Georgia and even struggled to build a new romantic relationship with Simone because he chose to put Ginny first after all this time. Zion entered full father mode, even joining Ginny at her therapy session to better understand her, be more present for her, and strengthen their connection. Unfortunately (or fortunately, in some ways), he learned about the hardships Ginny had been through. From car camping to shoplifting and witnessing violence, Georgia wasn’t able to sugarcoat everything.

One of the Most Heartbreaking Romantic Teen Dramas of the Century Deserved So Much Better Than Its 36% RT Score

Chloë Grace Moretz’s romantic drama, ‘If I Stay,’ is still underrated over 10 years after its release.

The many shocking revelations had already struck a nerve in Zion, so when Georgia was arrested for Tom Fuller’s murder, and he realized that she was guilty, he completely lost it. Even worse, he lost it so much that he let himself be wrapped up in Gil’s endeavors. Both fathers unanimously decided to call CPS on Georgia, which concluded in ripping Ginny and Austin from their homes, separating them, and having them move in with their respective fathers. It was a Gil-coded move, for sure, but the fact that Zion participated in such a cruel scheme broke her. Georgia needed love, but all she got was judgment. Out of all the times Zion could have turned his back on her, he did it just before the craziest plot twist of the century, in her weakest, most vulnerable moment, taking her biggest loves, Ginny and Austin, away from her.

The man to whom she could always come back and knew he would understand her, took away what was most precious. At that moment, it wasn’t just anger or shock that was visible in Georgia’s face. It was an utter betrayal. The kind of betrayal that will never go away. Never be forgotten, no matter what happens. Sometimes, fan-favorite characters do something terrible, but they will turn it around again. With Zion, though, there won’t be such a thing. Sorry, Zion and Georgia shippers, but Ginny & Georgia straight-up ruined all the chances for a happy ever after. Ginny & Georgia is available to stream on Netflix.
