Good Charlotte passed down a huge announcement, perhaps to stir those fans that went “through the wringer” for the band. Good Charlotte lasts this summer concert on August 8th along with Good Morning America, so word went down from the grounds. In moments, the diehard fans swarmed the band with requests. The promo-image features a neat B&W photo of Joel and Benji Madden against the pop-purple background, albeit the New York city skyline peeking through-the classic Good Charlotte energy, you know.

Passionate reviews poured into the comments section in no time. Another commenter warmed up the goose bumps by requesting “East Coast Anthem,” triggering a wave of assent. Many went on to the heart emojis and stories of their growing years when they used to request this song-there is a typical ‘Bring It On’ spirit that another one commented on humorously that he or she would have asked for this song thrice in three different concerts.

Another list of favorites got lit love too. The ‘Waldorf Worldwide’ track got the comments flowing in when the first commenter pointed out the band liked their suggestion, and then hilarious back-and-forth ensued as to how, in theory, the song ought to be performed just for them personally, given their real-life connection to the Maryland town referenced in the song.

Most of the classics were put upon-and that is generally what most requests revolve around. ‘Motivation Proclamation,’ ‘The Anthem,’ and ‘Girls & Boys’ were much mentioned repeatedly in different comments. Some fans were explicit as to the album eras and begged for songs from only the first two albums. That emotional appeal was a clue as to why they capitalized the answers, lit up with fire emojis.

International fans caught the act, too. Include comments from South America, Central America, Italy, New Zealand, and Wales-all of which are pretty much saying, “Just go wherever newbies; just come here first.” The geographic scattering was a mad reminder of Good Charlotte’s worldwide appeal simply two decades after their induction into pop stardom.

Less frequently discussed songs open the gates to revealing the deep knowledge of fans. ‘Broken Hearts Parade’ stirred feeling bans among two commenters, who questioned whether they were the only ones loving this track. Meanwhile, the mention of ‘Hey Dad…I’m Writing to You’ stood out for its seriousness among the generally upbeat ones.

The band’s interaction with the answers (meddling with liked comments about obscure tracks) indicates that they are listening to what really appeals to the most. Whether these favored songs do make the GMA setlist is a different question, but all love points to a big chunk of early 2000s material.

What makes this interaction potential and interesting is how it parallels the trajectory of Good Charlotte’s career. The most requested songs stem from the band’s breakthrough years, which clearly indicate the big weight the records bore in getting the band onto an establishment. The few scattered cries for material also point to their continued relevance. The international hype is proof of how their Maryland-originated pop-punk somehow transitioned into global appeal.

Now, with the 8th approaching, a truly good question turns up: have the faithful been wondering? It’s not whether Good Charlotte will do-good; for over 20 years, they have done so. The real question is this: can 12 minutes on morning TV squeeze in all the anthems that these loyal followers are so desperately asking for? If the live crowd is anywhere close to this comment energy, one thing is for sure-the Rockefeller Plaza gig will very much feel like a stadium gig.
