Erika Jayne can certainly credit herself for being someone that knows Teddi Mellencamp best. The duo starred on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills together on Seasons 8-10, and they’ve maintained a friendship since.
Now, as Teddi continues her battle against Stage IV cancer, Erika is commenting on how the experience has changed her friend. Notably, the accountability coach responded well to immunotherapy. The tumors in her brain and lungs have “significantly shrunk.” And the Two T’s In A Pod podcast host is enjoying a new lease on life.
Erika Jayne thinks Teddi Mellencamp has “softened” her edges
“I think I changed as a human being,” Teddi reflected on the Friday, June 20 episode of her Diamonds in the Rough podcast
“Well, it’s so funny because your best friend and I had a long conversation about you this weekend,” Erika teased in response.
“Oh really, what’d y’all say? Am I going to be pissed?” the fitness enthusiast asked.
Teddi’s medical journey began in October 2022, when she was diagnosed with stage II melanoma. Through December 2024, the RHOBH alum had over a dozen concerning spots surgically removed.
Then in February 2025, matters became more dire as Teddi’s cancer metastasized. Multiple brain tumors were discovered after the reality TV star suffered “severe and debilitating headaches.”
Reflecting on the last few years, Teddi said on her podcast that she feels a “softer side” emerging now. And her friend Erika agreed.
“No. I said I think that you’ve softened your edges, and I see you being very caring, and I gave some great examples of how you were supportive of me during this time, this really hard time in your life,” the Pretty Mess star explained. “And I said, I think that Teddi has uncovered a new level of … empathy.”
For Teddi giving “hugs” now feels like a “weird” change in her life. She shared, “I felt what it feels like to maybe never have another hug again.”
Teddi has been spending a lot of time with her children, Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5. Estranged husband Edwin Arroyave has been incredibly supportive as well during this difficult time.
Later in the conversation, Erika added, “You’ve grown so much during this period. And it’s really beautiful to watch.”
