J.K. Rowling Says Harry Potter Series Has Excellent Scripts

The Harry Potter TV series is shifting gears with its production. After announcing the main cast earlier in the year, it looks like the scripts are moving along quickly as well, with J.K. Rowling giving a magical response to the first two episodes.

While many of Rowling’s online interactions lead to arguments over transgender rights, her latest comments were directed away from controversy and instead focused on the upcoming TV reboot of the Harry Potter saga. Although Rowling is not directly part of the writing team, it looks like she still has eyes on the scripts that are coming through from the writing team, and what she is seeing is encouraging. In her post on X, Rowling said:

“I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD.”

As if there were any doubts.

When questioned over whether she had any involvement in writing the scripts, she reiterated that she did not, but she “worked closely with the extremely talented writers.” The writers in question are Francesca Gardiner, who has worked on The Man in the High Castle and His Dark Materials, and Mark Mylod, who previously worked as a director on The Last of Us and Game of Thrones, as well as producer on the U.S. version of Shameless.

When it was first announced, the Harry Potter TV series became the subject of intense backlash for several reasons. Why was Warner Bros. rebooting the franchise just a decade after the movie saga ended? Why was J.K. Rowling involved? How could anyone replace the original cast? So many questions blasted across cyberspace and into the black whole of social media, almost guaranteeing that the show was doomed from the start.

However, as the months have passed, it has become clear that the Harry Potter series is still happening, and despite continued online rumbles, will be a huge hit for HBO when it is finally released late in 2026. The casting of the likes of John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Janet McTeer and Paapa Essiedo in key roles has been met with some complaints, but on the whole, many seem to be willing to give this new cast a chance to endear themselves just like the originals did 20 years ago.

Now, with the main players in place, scripts well on the way to completion, and filming expected to get underway later this year, it looks like things are heading in the right direction for the Harry Potter TV show. Whether it turns out to be a magical experience or fans just cry Avada Kedavra, is something we are still a long way from finding out.
