If you found yourself compelled by the journey of the Moore twins in Ryan Coogler‘s astounding 2025 horror film, then you might want to sit down for this. Despite it’s monumental success, Sinners, as stated by Coogler, won’t be getting a sequel anytime soon. The Warner Bros. horror behemoth has grossed more than $350 million at the box office, and the studio will no doubt be hoping to capitalize on this success. Nevertheless, the writer/director did not think of it as an opportunity to start a franchise. In fact, he made it because he wanted to stay away from franchise filmmaking. Despite several sequel rumors, it appears that Coogler is not planning to make Sinners 2.
In a recent conversation with Ebony magazine, Coogler opened up about his original plans for Sinners, and how he never thought of expanding the story into more than one film. “I never think about that,” Coogler said when explaining his creative process, one that has involved a couple of sequels in the past. He directed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for the MCU, will return for Black Panther 3, and he was involved as producer on the Creed sequels. However, it seems that he wants to take a break from multi-picture cinematic universes:
“I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that. I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.
I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrées and desserts, I wanted all of it there. I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”

The Importance of Music in ‘Sinners’ as Explained by Ryan Coogler
Those who have already had the pleasure of catching Sinners in theaters know that music is one of the noteworthy aspects of the film. The diversity of Göransson’s soundtrack is remarkable, and will surely make him a strong contender in the Oscar race next year. One particular scene in the movie shows the importance of this form of artistic expression, and Coogler explained what he was trying to convey with the extraordinary scene:
“I do think that music is a form of alchemy. I think it’s a very supernatural art form. I’ve had the experience of being at a party where the music is good, and you got the right people around you, and for a brief period of time, you feel almost immortal…that was what I was trying to communicate.
“When I was researching the music from this time period, I realized that it was the most important American contribution to global popular culture; it was the greatest contribution our country has made to that.”
