The holiday season is in full swing, and many people are jetting away to various destinations around the world to escape from the busyness of life. The world has endless destinations to pick from, but nothing beats a trip to a sunny seaside resort during the summertime, and this one African city could just be the ultimate choice for holidaymakers.
Hurghada is a beautiful seaside city located on the western side of Egypt’s Red Sea. The incredible spot is home to a coastline that stretches 40km and is lined with golden sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. There is so much to explore in this city, which was once a small fishing village.
Hurghada holds all of its natural and historic charm, making it the perfect spot for relaxation. Sun-seeking travellers can make the most out of this beautiful destination, as along with the sandy beaches, it boasts a warm climate all year round, with temperatures reaching the high 30s during the summer months.
The resort is also renowned for scuba diving, and it is home to numerous dive shops and schools. Visitors can also enjoy a range of other watersports, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, yachting, and snorkelling.
Exploring the city’s heritage is also a must. The historic old town of El Dahar is just north of Hurghada and is made up of narrow streets, traditional souks, Egyptian coffee shops, and a Christian Coptic Church.
One person on TripAdvisor said: “If you don’t feel like all the tourist nonsense, this is the place for you!
Here you get to know the real Egyptian life! There are hardly any tourists here. The impressions I have collected here: Unforgotten and beautiful!”
Another visitor shared a few warnings, but still spoke highly of the place, rating it a four out of five.
They wrote: “Had to do some shopping and was told this was the place to visit and I am glad that we did. This area is full of cafes, small restaurants and shops where you can buy a wide range of things from spices to clothes to luggage and everything in between.
“Haggling is also strongly recommended and does work here. The shop/stall owners were a bit pushy for our time/money but nothing that couldn’t be handled plus we did see quite a few beggars/homeless people so keep thins in mind. Overall, a bustling place where you can easily spend 3-4 hours.”
