The Caribbean is known for its incredible beaches; in fact, it’s home to 250 miles of pristine coastline, and it’s a popular holiday destination for many Brits. However, it’s not exactly close by, taking just under 10 hours to fly there from the UK by plane. If you’re pressed for time, there are plenty of other stunning beaches nearby in Europe, including the world’s best beach, which is a more manageable two hours from the UK.
But relaxing on a gorgeous beach doesn’t always have to involve leaving the UK, especially if you’re on a budget. There are plenty of pretty beaches to soak up the sun right here in the UK, and one of them is a “perfect dupe” for one of the Caribbean’s famed shores. Travel experts at Parkdean Resorts have revealed the beach you should head to this summer if you’re looking for a slice of paradise without even leaving the country.
Located on the island of Saint John, one of the three Virgin Islands, Cinnamon Bay Beach is an idyllic cove famed for its crystal-clear blue waters that make it a popular snorkelling destination.
But if you’re staying put in the UK this year, Parkdean Resorts has revealed the “perfect dupe” for this Caribbean stretch of coastline located in Cornwall.
Known for its soft white sand and turquoise sea, Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall is an oasis of calm and natural beauty in the UK, often experiencing flat water during the summer months thanks to having its own microclimate.
Backed by granite cliffs and winding coastal paths that surround the picturesque beach, the coves on the beach have even been compared to those found on Cinnamon Bay Beach.
The stunning white sand is also the unique result of seashells that have been pounded to dust by the sea over millions of years, helping it appear soft and powdery.
Speaking of their visit, one Tripadvisor user said: “Just stunning. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. First time at Porthcurno and will definitely be returning”.
Another resident added that: “I am Cornish born and bred, and can recommend lots of lovely beaches to visit in Cornwall. But Porthcurno beach wins hands down every time! It is truly stunning! We visit as often as we can — you could well be in the Caribbean!”.
A 30-minute drive from Penzance, there’s a pay and display car park located by the beach, but getting onto the beach requires walking down a sandy path and steep steps. Visitors should also note there’s a dog ban in place from the July 1 to August 31 between 10am and 6pm.
