Clown In A Cornfield Author Gives Book Sequel Update

Adam Cesare’s Clown in a Cornfield is one of the best additions to the horror genre in recent years, and its 2025 movie adaptation is drawing even more attention to the novel and its sequels. And with the Clown in a Cornfield movie being part of the San Diego Comic-Con lineup, the author discussed the series’ future while at the convention.

Speaking to Screen Rant‘s Ash Crossan at SDCC, Cesare revealed that the fourth installment in the Clown in a Cornfield series is nearly complete. In fact, he was working on the next book on the way to Comic-Con. He told Crossan, “On the flight out here, I almost finished book four. It’ll be handed in by the end of this month.

That’s exciting news for fans of the slashers, and it sounds like it might not mark the end of the horror series. Although the author didn’t confirm another book after number four, he noted that people frequently ask when he’ll stop. Asked again, he spoke about how much he loves slasher franchises that keep coming up with fresh concepts:

“I love slashers so much and almost more exciting than writing the first book was writing the second one. Like, ‘How do you extend this in a way that doesn’t feel stale?’ I just love slasher sequels and I love slasher franchises. And they’re all movies; there are not a lot of book adaptations in the slasher space.

So it was just kind of like ‘If I ran the zoo, how would I do slasher sequels?’ and ‘How would I keep twisting it and doing a different thing each time?’ And that’s been the trying to keep the ball in the air for me, creatively, writing these books.”

While Cesare’s comments don’t confirm a fifth Clown in a Cornfield book, they suggest he’s open to long-running series and fresh ideas — and that could translate to another installment. He’s right that the slasher subgenre is more popular in film than in books, but his novels prove there’s a demand in the latter medium as well.

With book four nearly finished, it’s only a matter of time until readers return to the world of Frendo the Clown.

Whether the author continues to churn out sequels or not, it’s great news that fans of Clown in a Cornfield have something on the horizon to look forward to. With book four nearly finished, it’s only a matter of time until readers return to the world of Frendo the Clown. The third book, The Church of Frendo, was among 2024’s new horror books, so the wait between installments shouldn’t be too agonizing.

Our Take On The Clown In A Cornfield Sequel Update

The update about Cesare’s next book is exciting, especially on the heels of the 2025 film — and alongside the director’s admission that he’s open to another Clown in a Cornfield movie.

AMC has yet to officially make official moves on Clown in a Cornfield 2, but the first film grossed $10.7 million at the box office on a budget of just $1 million, so it’s hard to see why it wouldn’t get a follow-up.

Even if the franchise doesn’t continue in its movie format, Cesare’s sequel update means that fans of the horror books will be able to enjoy more stories in this world. And with three books published and a fourt on the horizon, there’s plenty more for future adaptations to draw from. This only adds to the positives of the latest update.
