Ella Langley dropped a sincere tribute to the ever-so-great Toby Keith, and one can say that it hit every note on the piano. This new find teamed up with Apple Music to do a rendition of Keith’s ‘Wish I Didn’t Know Now,’ and the reaction has been nothing short of electric.

The emotional cover was a ‘massive honor’ for Langley to present to the legend on social media. ‘I knew instantly that “Wish I Didn’t Know Now” was the song I wanted to do,’ she said. ‘Toby is truly a legend, and getting to put my own spin on this classic was an incredible opportunity.’ The track is only on Apple Music, and judging by the comments, the fans are loving it.
One person wrote in utter excitement, ‘Wow Ella!!! Your voice is amazing!!!’ Another wrote, ‘You sing that beautifully,’ while a third said, ‘This is actually my favorite song of his! I’m so glad you honored him with your own rendition! Long live TK!’ Appreciation went on as one more went, ‘😭you sound so beautiful singing Toby’s song! ♥️’
One Marine veteran took a moment to appreciate what Toby Keith meant to the military community. ‘As for the loss of Toby Keith, he was a man who would have been out there with the highly men! He was a storyteller, entertainer, and an amazing man,’ the Marine vet stated. ‘I am a Marine Vet. I know what he did for the veterans, and that makes him a super star. You have to be in a hostile area to know what he meant to all vets.’
Langley is definitely grabbing more attention with this great rendition, whose vocal capabilities are put forth in the limelight, but it is, more so, the emotional expression attached to the song. One described how refreshing it was to hear the song sung from a female’s viewpoint: ‘Covering Toby is certainly an honor, and I really love hearing this one from a female’s perspective. Beautifully done!’ Then there is another one who said, ‘Beautiful cover of one of my favorite Toby songs❤️.’
And are there plenty of funny ones! For instance, “Talented, beautiful, and Sexy as hell 🌹🌹🌹🌹,” and then one more that begged, “can we get this on Spotify?”(To which someone else said, “PLEASE! 🙏🏻”).
When country music was still mourning the departure of Toby Keith just after being diagnosed with stomach cancer earlier this year, this cover could not have come at a better time. It is all gone now-the world-and Langley is carrying the torch for him: A patriotic man and a man of rowdy party songs. And from the reaction this cover has garnered, she definitely did him proud.
Langley’s ‘Wish I Didn’t Know Now’ is more than a cover-a love letter to a legend; melding an original rendition with soulful respect for the original; Langley seems to have embraced the core of what made Toby’s music great.
