Red Rocks was bursting with energy on Monday night, as the Church-Empire Caesars Band name was rekindled, complete with their longtime collaborator Joanna Cotten, for what in the fans’ words is possibly the most electrifying show of his entire career. The country superstar’s entourage teased the special reunion concert on social media and offered livestream passes for those lucky enough to snag one and miss out on the historic event at Red Rocks – a moment that the fans in instant reaction will surely mark in history.

Fans poured in comments through the announcement post. While one user had a great time saying that it was unfair her sister could attend the show and that hard-working fans deserved that luck, others begged for deep cuts like “Knives in Vancouver” to be played live, and some would appreciate the crispness of the event streaming through nugs.net. Most comments were just about gaze upon the anticipation of yet another no-holds-barred show from Church and the original soundtrack family.

True aficionados would know that Church’s relationships with The ECB go back to the early days of formation. These were the guys he had with him while he was laying down the foundation for the signature sound that was beginning, that rough whiskey-soaked country-rock sound that really put him onto the map. Now putting them back together at Red Rocks as a venue where Church has chalked up some of his most legendary shows is sure to strike a chord with the fans. Multiple commentators singled her out as well, with one even calling Cotten the queen of Church collaborators.

Beyond comments pouring in, that energy spilled over to the crowd itself. Several admitted having goosebumps tickling their skin; during its second spell, a person described that very night as the pinnacle of their life in live music. Viewers streaming it from home thanked the fantastic production that made them feel as though they were really at the foothills of Colorado! East Coast fans, who had to stay up late to watch the live viewing, started asking about the release of the on-demand version, thus showing how boundless Church’s influence really is beyond Rocky Mountain time.

That, however, made the moment a particularly special one. In recent years, Church has toured with various line-ups of musicians, making this all-out revival of The ECB in many ways feel like a homecoming. And there was no slow jam from that band-they poured energy all over that room-just like one commenter said just before the gig.
