First ‘Twinless’ Trailer Shows Off Dylan O’Brien’s Acting Chops

While fans could’ve hoped to see two Dylan O’Briens in his latest dark comedy about twins, the title dispels that hope pretty quickly. Twinless sees The Maze Runner star alongside the film’s writer and director, James Sweeney, with both actors playing twins that have lost their other half. The quirky humor of the story shines through the darkness that lies beneath in this unsettling tale of grief and all the awkwardness that comes with it. The recently released first trailer, which arrives months after Twinless premiered at 2025 Sundance Film Festival in January, pulls back the curtain on the comedy and shows audiences a glimpse of its dark underbelly.

The short but sweet logline for Twinless reads: “Two grieving men bond in a support group and form an unlikely friendship.” The trailer introduces O’Brien’s character, Roman, whose twin brother recently passed away. Audiences get a window into how torn up Roman is over his brother’s death, who he saw as his other half. Seeking help from a local twin grief support group, he meets Dennis, who is also grieving the loss of his twin. As Dennis and Roman begin to lean on each other more and more, doing familial tasks together like going to the grocery store, things take a darker turn.

The film, produced by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate, received critical acclaim at its festival opening and even won the Audience Award, yet audiences have heard little to nothing since it scheduled its release for September 5. Now, the first trailer has finally arrived to give audiences a taste of O’Brien’s buzz-worthy performance. The Teen Wolf actor recently appeared in the coming-of-age mob drama Ponyboi, which currently sits at a strong 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Dylan O’Brien Steals the Show in James Sweeney’s Disturbing Story

This isn’t the first time James Sweeney has starred in his own project. His directorial debut, the 2019 film Straight Up, also saw the multi-hyphenate on both sides of the camera. While Sweeney knocks it out of the park with his enormous role in Twinless, Dylan O’Brien is stealing audiences’ hearts once more.

The movie is not only critically acclaimed but also internet famous. Twinless, for better or for worse, went viral for its leaked sex scene involving O’Brien. There’s no doubt that O’Brien is a sex symbol, but the leaked scene only confirmed it further and got more fans hooked on the film before its release. So while the Saturday Night actor has been through some undeserved flops, he seems to be entering his golden age.
