HBO’s Harry Potter has officially been revealed, and it already looks exactly how fans imagined it would. The titular hero is featured in the first image from the magical production, which is currently building the new Hogwarts. The new Harry Potter looks identical to the original version made famous by Daniel Radcliffe in the film franchise, but as the saying goes: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
HBO has released the official first look at their Harry Potter series, which is now in production. The image features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived. Along with the first look, HBO confirmed that the series is eyeing a 2027 release window. Mark Mylod (The Menu, The Last of Us) is set to helm several episodes of the series, while series writer Francesca Gardiner (Succession) acts as showrunner. Cinematographer Adriano Goldman (The Crown) is credited as the director of photography. Check out the image below:

‘Harry Potter’ Star Reveals Why One “Fan Satisfying” Scene Had to Be Cut From the Movie
The 2002 film ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ didn’t include one of the most popular moments from the book.
The filming announcement arrived with a slew of new additions to the star-studded cast. Those joining the HBO reboot include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser (Andor) as Garrick Ollivander. The rest of the Harry Potter cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
Original ‘Harry Potter’ Star Talks Backlash to New Casting
HBO’s Harry Potter has been subject to plenty of controversy, mostly surrounding J.K. Rowling’s close involvement in the reboot despite her increasingly transphobic rhetoric. However, some backlash lacks merit, especially when it comes to how some fans reacted to Paapa Essiedu (Gangs of London) being cast as Professor Severus Snape. As original Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs recently stated, people online were “being racist,” hating on “one of the best actors” he has seen in his life.
“Paapa Essiedu is one of the best actors I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve seen some people online who are being rude about him. What they’re being is racist. All the cast of the new ‘Harry Potter’ TV series are amazing. They will be swallowing their tongues, hopefully — you know, their digital tongues — when they see what [Paapa] does on screen.”
Essiedu will take on the iconic role previously played by the latest Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter television adaptation. As reported, no one from the films will return in the HBO reboot, including Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy. The villain will now be portrayed by Johnny Flynn, who has appeared in Emma and The Outfit.
