‘Ironheart’ EP Shares Details on Mephisto and Teases More Seasons for Riri Williams

Ironhearthas been given a rough ride by some viewers for a variety of both usual and unexpected reasons. However, in the season finale, the arrival of Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto has sparked something that has been waiting to catch first for years. While audiences only get a glimpse of the devil behind the façade – an ingenious moment of reflection, pun fully intended – there is certainly more to come from the dark Marvel deal-maker. While that could happen anywhere, while speaking to MovieWeb’s own George Edelman, Ironheart EP Sev Ohanian seemed to suggest that there is a lot of hope that Ironheart will not become another Moon Knight.

‘Ironheart’ Star Has Defiant Response to Audience Negativity as RT Score Skyrockets

‘Ironheart’ has been gaining some mixed reactions, but that is fine by one star of the MCU series.

Ironheart has been gaining strong scores from critics, and for those who like their Marvel offerings to be full of the usual big action moments, several plot devices, and dialogue that drips “comic book,” then the series has provided all of that. For those who still want something different…go and see how James Gunn is getting on and, you never know, you might like that better. However, with Ironheart, the MCU has finally opened up the gates to hell – possibly not for the first time – and brought Mephisto into the universe. According to Ohanian, this is definitely only the beginning. He said:

“He’s an iconic character, and has only become more iconic just with the rumor mill. I personally was a fan of watching Wandavision and trying to make sense of it all myself. It’s not the comic choice of who Parker Robins is allied with, and that was one of the reasons that Marvel and all of us were like, “Might be kind of interesting to do a little twist here and have Parker’s connection be to Big M.” Beyond just the fact that it’s unexpected and fun in that way.

“Thematically, it makes so much sense. If you think about what our arc is, and what the show deals with this season when it comes to ambition and making choices. You’re hitting selflessness versus selfishness. It all kind of came together to make a quite exciting idea at the core and obviously there’s, there’s no shortage of where the story can go and where he can show up. I’ll certainly be watching, for sure.”

Mephisto Could Have Been Present in Other MCU Projects

Mephisto sits on a throne in Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics

When it comes to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everything is connected, and most things have some kind of hint of what is coming long before it does. The Infinity Saga opened up the idea of alternate timelines and incursions years before Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness too long, hard looks into the multiverse. Mentions of mutants have been present since at least the beginning of Phrase 4. Mephisto could be another variant of that kind of thing.

Mephisto’s debut in the MCU has been rumored in almost every Marvel series that has landed on Disney+ since WandaVision. Some believe that he made a deal with She-Hulk’s Madisynn, and he was name-checked in Agatha All Along, but ultimately, those expecting him to appear on screen have been massively disappointed every time. However, his Ironheart debut has been on the cards since the series was announced – although the terrible AI images that some claimed were his MCU design were, as expected, fake. Where he goes from here though, who knows, but the devil’s work is never done.
