The ex-NSYNC star Lance Bass is slamming these silly-I do mean-that food-serving sizes in a hilarious Instagram post, with netizens laughing and nodding along. He put up a video of himself preparing breakfast while ranting about an English muffin bearing that inscription of two servings.

Bass said he was going to toast his English muffin, spread butter and jam on it, and proudly stated “Fifteen grams of carbs,” only to realize from his shocked face that they were labelling “15 grams” for HALF an English muffin! His reaction was priceless. He screamed, “Who eats half an English muffin?!” tucked his elbows on the counter while crying, “I’m a mess…but the fun kind.”
The caption put the whole thing into perspective: “I’d like to talk to whoever decided the serving size for an English muffin is HALF.” The post appeared to strike a nerve with those who, like Bass, are battling diabetes.
Numerous commenters were able to relate to struggling with the math that such ridiculous serving sizes require in calculating carbs. Another one commented on bizarre serving sizes: “Who goes ‘hmm I think I will eat just six chips and feel happy and satisfied’?!?!” Another one responded about the countless calculations required to live with type 1: “There’s a lot to it…There’s a lot of math to type 1!”
Others joined in fantasizing ways to eat an English muffin, with one commenter entertaining “Butter on one half and peanut butter on the other and then smush it together like a sandwich.” Some just expressed appreciation for Bass’ humor, such as one fan who said, “I could watch you all day. Thank you for the laughs.”
Since his diagnosis with type 1 in 2012, Bass has been open about the challenges of living with the disease. His humorous takes about keeping his blood sugar in check never fail to show off his witty personality. This newer post is yet another reminder of just how skillfully he turns anything that gets under his skin into comedic gold for all to relate to.
Serving sizes have looked nicely absurd for debate for some time, and Bass, with his celebrity status and perfect comedic timing, have somehow revived the conversation anew. Nutritionists have been very critical of food labeling that gives customers the illusion that they are buying healthier products by throwing on unrealistic portion sizes. Another commenter hit it on the nose: “Serving sizes are a joke!!!!”

In the clip, he declared himself a mess, but I think fans would beg to differ: that kind of mess is the kind of mess we all could use more of-honest, funny, and not afraid to bring up some of life’s absurdities. Counting carbs or just trying to enjoy some breakfast-may his voice echo through-your system sometimes just does not make sense, and all you can do is laugh.
