The Road House sequel recently hit a massive roadblock, but it appears Amazon has quickly found a solution to their problems. Guy Ritchie, originally slated to helm Road House 2, is no longer attached to the project. A few weeks after his departure, the studio has recruited a familiar filmmaker to handle directing duties on the action flick.
Deadline reports that Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) is in talks to direct Road House 2, the sequel to the 2024 remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Amazon MGM Studios is looking to bring back the Heads of State director into the fold for the highly-anticipated follow-up, which will see Gyllenhaal return in the lead role. It’s unclear if anyone else from the first film will reprise their roles, but it was recently reported that Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista was slated to join the upcoming action sequel. According to Deadline, Amazon plans to begin principal photography on Road House 2 later this fall.

Road House, a remake of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, failed to impress critics, garnering a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that did not stop it from becoming a major success for Prime Video, warranting a quick sequel announcement. The original film with Swayze got a direct-to-video sequel that was widely panned, partly because its lead star did not return. Amazon is already on the right track to avoid that same outcome, in addition to recruiting an exciting new director to the crew. Road House stars Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Joaquim De Almeida, Jessica Williams, Billy Magnussen, Conor McGregor and Lukas Gage. Read the official plot synopsis for the 2024 film:
