For those who scoff at the idea of appearing in a Marvel Studios movie, or any other big franchise movie for that matter, Scarlett Johansson is showing exactly why they are a fast-track to the top of the list of highest-grossing stars in Hollywood. While total box office grosses aren’t something that every actor cares about, Johansson has nonetheless become the actress with the largest value in box office receipts after the release of Jurassic World Rebirth. Updated lifetime tallies compiled this week by The Numbers put her cumulative ticket sales at roughly $15.64 billion worldwide, enough to edge past long-time leader Zoë Saldaña, whose films now stand at about $15.55 billion.
The switch in former Marvel stars at the top of the chart came about thanks to Johansson’s first outing in Universal’s dinosaur franchise scoring a big opening weekend of $141.2 million domestic over five days and $312.5 million worldwide. However, it her role of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU that has really paid off, with eight movies providing a large segment of her overall numbers. This is similar to Saldaña, who has also made several Marvel appearances, but also has two Avatar movies to her name, and when Avatar: Fire and Ash is released in December 2026, she will no doubt regain her place at the top of the list. The Top 5 actresses list currently looks like this.
- Scarlett Johansson — $15.64 billion
- Zoë Saldaña — $15.55 billion
- Cate Blanchett — $10.64 billion
- Emma Watson — $9.89 billion
- Helena Bonham Carter — $9.83 billion

Scarlett Johansson Says Her Upcoming Sci-Fi Action Sequel Is a “Love Letter” to Steven Spielberg
The MCU star will land on dinosaur land soon, and has called her next blockbuster a throwback to Steven Spielberg’s classic.
However, both stars still have some way to go if they are to ever pass the actor who is above them on the non-gendered list of highest earners. That would be another Marvel veteran, Samuel L. Jackson, whose total currently stands at a mighty $27.7 billion across all roles. Perhaps this is one time when a second position may have to be enough.
Scarlett Johansson Could Return to Marvel, but Not as Black Widow
While there is a lot of speculation about which former Marvel stars will return to the fold for Secret Wars, it is likely that Scarlett Johansson may not be among the roster that is set to be longer than any superhero movie in history – which itself is some going after Avengers: Endgame. However, that does not mean she is completely done with Marvel Studios as she still has a secret project potentially on the cards.
Back in 2021, Kevin Feige teased that Johansson could be back working with Marvel Studios on a non-Black Widow project. While a lot has happened since then, and many projects have fallen by the wayside, there has been no real indication of what has happened to Johansson’s movie or show. While it seems like we are just going to have to hold on a little longer to see if that project does materialize, Johansson’s new position in the Jurassic World franchise proves that there are still plenty more blockbuster movies for her to show off her impressive talents in the meantime.
