Slash Shares Bold Black And White Art From Cavewoman Comic

Instagram/@slash

Forever young Very few people enjoy sharing whatever they want from Slash‘s world on Instagram. True to form, he reposted an original black-and-white illustration by Budd Root from his underground comic ‘Cavewoman,’ tricking his fans, who responded with everything from admiration to sheer confusion. The image is a highly detailed jungle scene with the titular character perched on top of a tree trunk in a crouched position, gripping a thin blade between her teeth. The foreground has the character crouching in a jungle clearing on a felled tree trunk with a thin blade gripped between her teeth, thick foliage oozing with raw energy.

Post captioned with his cryptic signature sign-off-“iiii]; )”-and myriad hashtags such as #buddrootart and #dinosaur, for there are things one simply cannot explain. The comment thread went wild, some lauding the art, others begging Slash to put the phone down and pick up the guitar. One fan went on to say, “I love the way he always surprises us, we never know what his next post will be about,” while another claimed that this intricate art would make an exceptional coloring book page.

Several didn’t seem to buy into Slash’s brief artistic detour, however. Others were more playful and exasperated, with one user writing in jest, “Slash it’s too early for this 💔 put the phone down,” while another offered, “Come on grandpa let’s get you to bed.” The rocker’s signature sign-off became the subject of many questions. Of these queries, one of the puzzled followers asked. “What does iiii]; )’ mean? Looks cryptic and cool!!” Theories then spilled into the replies, including one suggesting it was a stylized image of Slash himself-top hat, cigarette, etc.

Others were eager to return to what the guitar hero is supposed to be doing. “Slash go play w ur guitar….” pleaded one, another straightforwardly stated, “It’s time to play guitar.” International fans too chimed in with Portuguese and Spanish sprinkled around. “Give Slash his guitar back,” one user ordered, while another cheekily added, “Put parental controls on Slash’s phone.”

Through an array of varied reactions, this very post presents a beautiful-commercial-on-Slash style-dream about art. The piece given by Budd Root himself should be a salute to the raw, pulpy style of underground comics, blending aggressive femininity with untamed wilderness. For those unaware, ‘Cavewoman’ has enjoyed a cult status since the ’90s because of its fast-paced art and storytelling. So, on the contrary to strange, he took to liking it all the way, with his entire style being somewhat awkwardly classy.

And therein lies the heart of this wild kind of content actually doing wonders for Slash’s social media. Whether live, nailing some insane riff somewhere, or sharing something dark and comic, he’s keeping ’em guessing. So, even with fans begging for him to stay in the studio and work on music, they’re enjoying every bit of this unpredictable ride. After all, when you are a rock legend, you do whatever you want: even confuse half of your fans.

So that’s the little extra evidence marking Slash as being that guitar player with a bit of every culture in his life. This is that ritzy-guy-that-everyone-pretends-to-understand. Or, if fans need clarity, they just engage with it-being an icon itself feeds you. Now, somebody better explain to him what the hell “iiii]; )’” actually means.
