The beautiful UK seaside town with long beach that ‘goes for miles’ | Travel News | Travel

This scenic town is the perfect place to enjoy a staycation this summer with its stunning natural landscapes. Visitors talk of the peaceful area and its incredible coastal views.

If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten path destination in the UK this summer, this could be the perfect spot for you. You’ll have an ideal blend of countryside and seaside while also being able to enjoy the town.

Millom is a small town in Cumbria which is an ideal place to visit if you’re heading towards the Lake District.

While you’re in the area, you can’t miss Haverigg beach which is on Cumbria’s west coast.

The shingle turns to sand as you walk further from the mainland and you’ll also see scenic sand dunes which feature along the coast.

One person on Tripadvisor said: “This is a lovely quiet beach that goes on for miles. It’s Dog friendly and there’s free parking which is great.

“There’s a bin in the car park and public toilets. We had a lovely walk at sunset which was gorgeous. There’s also a little path up the dunes at the side.”

Another penned: “Amazing location. Lovely long beach along the Irish Sea and the wonderful contrast of the hill in the background. Marvellous!”

Visit Cumbria says before the discovery of iron ore at Hodbarrow, Millom was just a few villages and farms.

After the discovery, in 1855, Millom became a prosperous town with a population of more than 10,000.

Little evidence remains of that iron and steel activity, although it was amongst the largest industrial sites of its type in the world.

Today, it remains a quiet hidden gem which Brits can enjoy without facing crowds of tourists.

The town is situated right next to the Lake District with one popular spot close by being Black Combe, a spot which walkers often visit.

After visiting the fell, one person on Tripadvisor said: “Black Combe is a fell for all the family. A lovely walk looking down a lovely valley.

“Easy walking for people used to the fells and the views up and down the coast are fabulous.

“Away from the beaten track, although tourists are beginning to recognise the fell as one worth ticking off their list.

“Bootle Village also boasts a lovely café, The Byre. Food and drink are definitely amongst the finest in the area.”

If you’re looking for a place to visit, Millom offers an enjoyable town to visit where you’ll have the chance to visit the stunning Lake District greenery and the seaside.
