Time-Traveling Twist Sends Claire’s Parents to the Past, Crossing Paths With Jamie’s Parents — What Does It Mean?

The official trailer for Outlander‘s upcoming spinoff, Blood of My Blood, delivers a major shock that fans might not have seen coming as the standalone prequel thrusts Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents into the past with an epic time-traveling twist.

Previously teased as a series chronicling the parallel romances between Claire’s parents in World War I England and her husband Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents in 18th-century Scotland, Blood of My Blood‘s trailer proves it’s so much more than that.  In the opening moments of the trailer, we get a glimpse of Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Beauchamp (Hermione Corfield) traveling by car through the countryside when they’re seemingly thrown off course.

As a result of this accident, Julia finds herself inhabiting 1714, about 200 years before her time. “I don’t know how I got here. Perhaps I’ve lost my mind. There was a deafening sound, but then you were gone, or perhaps I was,” Julia’s narration points out. As Julia finds herself swept up in an unfamiliar world, she wonders aloud, “What day is it now?”

“Saturday in the year of 1714,” Davina Porter (Sara Vickers) tells her bluntly, putting her in a similar position that her daughter Claire would find herself in years later. The trailer reveals plenty of other exciting details, including feuding fathers, Henry’s search for his missing wife, Julia helping Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) connect, the Beltane festival, and much more.

While the trailer also teases some World War I action, it’s clear that while Brian and Ellen are at the start of their romance, Henry and Julia are at the stage where they’d do anything to reunite. How will it all play out, and what does this revelation mean for the series and the Outlander world? We’re breaking down some of the biggest reveals, easter eggs, and parallels from the trailer below.
