1/4 Players Choose Support Class, A Promising Sign

Battlefield 6 has just revealed the stats for its open beta periods, and everyone’s rightfully focused on the headline: this has been the biggest beta in series history, with over 420 million matches played across 92 million hours of gameplay. The stats are undeniably impressive, and suggest that Battlefield 6‘s open beta weekends have already been immensely popular.

But all of these stats have missed the most important Battlefield 6 revelation. Gameplay will ultimately make or break Battlefield 6, and, in order for it to succeed, it’s going to need a balanced distribution of players. And early numbers are encouraging, with players making some surprising, but ultimately helpful, strategy decisions.

Over 1/4th Of Battlefield 6 Players Are Choosing Support

According to the Battlefield 6 open beta stats, a surprising number of players have chosen to play Support. It’s the second-most commonly selected class, with 26% of players selecting it across 420 million matches. It’s just barely edged out by Assault at 32%.

That’s a bit surprising: it’s often a chore to get players to commit to a support role. In most online shooters, support can be a little boring – it’s not the kill-collecting, top-of-the-leaderboard role that everyone wants to play.

Support often fades into the background, focusing more on strategy and healing. They’re often the first players to be targeted when the enemy team arrives, and sometimes, they’re a little weaker than their more offense-focused counterparts.

But in truth, Support players are the strategic backbone of any tactical shooter. Without a good Support or two, it’s hard to sustain a team throughout a match – if not downright impossible. Therefore, it’s encouraging to see so many Battlefield 6 players picking up the slack. Although, given how Battlefield 6 approaches its Support class, it’s easily explainable.

Battlefield Has Made Support Classes Fun To Play

How BF6’s Support Has Changed

The secret to its success is simple – Support is just fun to play in Battlefield 6 (or Battlefield more generally). While you can do a fair bit of healing and ammo restocking, you’re not limited to it; you’re also an offensive character in your own right, with a pretty impressive arsenal of weapons to choose from.

Support is also arguably the fastest character class, with no slowdown while carrying LMGs. This means you can pack quite a bit of firepower while still zipping around the map, ensuring you’re always exactly where you need to be as soon as you need to be there.

With the ability to bring back downed teammates, deploy cover to alter the flow of battle, and use smoke grenades to disrupt enemy visibility, your options as a support player are varied, and almost always useful. You’re always right behind the heat of battle, and you’re forced to stay engaged throughout the match.

So really, it’s not a total surprise that Support is such a popular choice, but it bodes well for the game’s future. If such an even spread of player classes continues into the full launch, then Battlefield 6 will have the makings of a great, supportive community.
