Ciara dropped a celebrity bomb that has everybody talking. The doyenne is now producing for the big screen the beautiful story of Sarah Rector. Sarah was an 11-year-old Black girl in the early 1900s who found oil in her land and fought to keep it all-one-a-kind history.

Sarah’s Oil shall hit the theaters through Amazon MGM Studios this November 7. Ciara announced the big news via her Instagram, accompanied by an awe-inspiring trailer that marked our first glimpse into this faith-based story. The caption read: “Remember her name… Sarah. A Young Black 11 year old girl in the early 1900s struck oil, fought to keep it, and made history.”

Bounded by just one little sequence, the trailer presents an eerie and tragic story-scene after scene from the moment Sarah found the oil on her land, through the tumultuous legal wrangling. One heartfelt moment for which the film is probably best known sees the heart-breaking earnestness of Sarah whispering, “All I’m asking is to keep what’s mine.” The extraordinarily beautiful cinematography includes wide shots of Oklahoma’s landscape so well that almost wrapping your mental picture around Sarah’s perspective would be impossible.

The feedback has been super positive for Ciara’s post: One said, “This looks Amazing! Can’t wait to watch,” and another, “I am so glad it’s a movie. When I learned about her, I was blown away.”

An overlay of chills and tears emerged. “Chills and tears. This looks sooooo good!”

Tickets have already begun to sell on one comment: “We’re pulling up to the theatre like we did SINNERS!!!! Let’s goooo,” making reference to Ciara’s earlier film. The vibe is undeniable, as several start tagging their squad-gang to begin planning movie hangouts for November.

Funny enough, one commenter brought up the issue that must be mentioned: “I wonder if they will tell the real story of where the wealth went and how they assigned her some white people.” This points to the complicated racial dynamics of that period that might hopefully be revealed by the movie.

The viewers seem to appreciate the historic significance as well. “And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the US made interest in the Middle East,” while placing Sarah’s story among larger histories of oil. Meanwhile, some people just rejoice in representation (“Black girls rock.”).

The hype does not stop at national borders, as a fan from outside stated, “I hope it’s gonna be shown in the UK!!”

What’s cool about this project is that Ciara stars alongside it, and she also runs the production company, Why Not You Productions, with her husband, Russell Wilson. The couple is focused on telling bigger, more meaningful stories, so this story of Sarah Rector fits right into that.

An early November release would serve as ample time to keep the buzz alive. Considering the hype still growing, theaters may have to plan for packed screenings. Between the spine-tingling true story, Ciara’s star power, and the very deep emotional-forwarding ties to Sarah’s journey that people are already building up, this will probably be the most talked-about film this fall.

One thing is for sure: the name Sarah Rector would be remembered on the 7th of November, just like Ciara promised. Judging from the reactions of people ready for this victory story-themes of endurance and faith poured onto a fight for your rightful claim against all odds-all they need is to wait two months for the theaters to paint them.
