First-Look Teaser Drops for ‘Return to Silent Hill’

Prepare to revisit the sinister town originally brought to life by Konami’s bestselling horror video game franchise in the upcoming indirect sequel Return to Silent Hill.

On August 27, Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting released the first-look teaser for the latest addition to the Silent Hill movie franchise. The clip begins with Jeremy Irvine’s character, James Sunderlan, gasping for air as he wakes up in a large body of water. Then he stumbles upon the “Welcome to Silent Hill” sign and walks into town. In a series of quick cuts, we see Sunderlan take on some of the town’s most terrifying monsters, from Creepers to Nurses, along with a cameo from the gruesome Lying Figures. Before the trailer ends, Sunderlan comes face to face with the biggest foe of all: the infamous Pyramid Head.

What’s the Story Behind ‘Return to Silent Hill’?

Cineverse

Irvine is joined by Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw, What Keeps You Alive), who takes on the role of Mary Cane. Christopher Gans, who helmed the first Silent Hill, is returning to the director’s chair for Return to Silent Hill after sitting out the second installment in the film franchise, 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation, which was directed by M.J. Bassett. Several years ago, Gans indicated that Return to Silent Hill would serve as a franchise reset of sorts, describing his vision for a Twilight Zone-style series of separate stories and saying it’s “totally independent from the two previous movies made and respects the way Silent Hill has evolved.”

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Return to Silent Hill is based on Silent Hill 2. The first Silent Hill video game was released on PlayStation in 1999, so clearly, even though the video game franchise has expanded over the years and spawned numerous spinoffs and sequels, love for the early entries in the Silent Hill game series remains as strong as ever.

Return to Silent Hill is set to premiere in theaters in January 2026. Watch the full trailer below.
