Ford is recalling nearly 500,000 vehicles over a brake fluid leak that extends how much time it takes the brakes to kick in – raising the risk of a crash.
The rear brake hose may rupture and leak fluid, requiring more distance to stop the vehicle.
Certain 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Edge SUV vehicles are included in the recall.
Ford said an estimated 1% of 499,129 vehicles – or 4,991 cars – have the defect.
As of June 9, Ford said it is aware of 64 warranty claims and 16 customer complaints related to rear brake leaks.
It is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.
Drivers may notice a change in the feel of the brake pedal and its travel, and a red warning light will illuminate if the brake fluid level reaches a specific level.

Ford said it is unsure what’s causing the rear brake hose leaks and it’s currently working on a remedy.
Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners on Sept. 8. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, which is anticipated for April 2026.
