HBO Max Preparing To Launch “Aggressive” Password-Sharing Crackdown Soon

One of the best streaming platforms out there is about to get a lot more difficult to share. HBO Max is about to join Netflix, Disney+, and other streamers by introducing a new initiative that aggressively tackles password-sharing. Say goodbye to sharing a streaming account with your loved ones, folks, because Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down the common practice.

Per Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery’s head of streaming, JB Perrette, announced during an earnings call that the messaging about password-sharing is about to get more “aggressive” for consumers. “The message language right now has been a fairly soft, cancel-able message,” but soon things will “start to get more fixed and such that people have to take action as opposed to right now, sort of having to be a voluntary process.” The stream intends to shut down any kind of loophole by the end of 2025, so subscribers should brace themselves for the inevitable.

More to come.
