The Issue: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get engaged after years of high-profile dating.
A hearty “mazel tov” to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift on their engagement (“Travis ‘saved’ the date,” Aug. 27).
But I seriously doubt that the impending bride will be headlining the Super Bowl LX halftime show: Taylor Swift’s songs are neither vulgar nor misogynistic enough for the NFL.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are finally engaged and are committing to a long and happy life of marriage.
And along come all the best-selling albums Taylor will crank out expounding on the bliss of being a wife.
Our now 30-something teenagers are growing up, bringing tears to our eyes as they embrace their adulthood.
Let the festivities begin; let the daily stories and sightings continue.
And let the odds be posted as to how long this love story will last.

In May, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Has anyone noticed that since I said ‘I hate Taylor Swift’, she is no longer ‘hot?’ ”
I guess you disagreed with him since her engagement was your front-page headline and you devoted four more pages to her.

The Issue: President Trump’s talk of welcoming 600,000 Chinese college students into America.
Trump giving 600,000 student visas to China, which will ultimately make Harvard and Columbia University richer, doesn’t sit well with me (“Chinese students get visas,” Aug. 26).
In no way should these colleges be rewarded for their socialist teachings and relentless protesting.
You don’t reward bad behavior, and China is the enemy.
If anything, our students deserve those seats.

Like the Chinese researchers who were on visas at the University of Michigan and were charged with smuggling a fungus with potential bioterrorism capability, we now have Yunhai Li, a Chinese doctor accused of stealing confidential US-funded cancer research.
Notably, Li was here on a non-immigrant research-scholar-exchange visa.
Instances like these confirm the potential of China’s National Intelligence Law of 2017, which requires all Chinese citizens to support China’s intelligence operations.
Yet, to placate Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Trump plans on providing 600,000 enemy Chinese students, concurrently providing Chinese spies access to the United States.
This would ultimately trade our national security for short-term diplomatic and trade interests.
