The Summer I Turned Pretty star Jackie Chung, who plays Belly’s mom, Laurel, teases a “rollercoaster” end to the series. The hit Prime Video coming-of-age romantic drama, created by Jenny Han from her trilogy of romance novels, is set to end at the conclusion of the third season, which premiered on July 16, 2025.
The show follows teenager Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) and her love triangle with two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, across multiple summers that impact the lives of all three. Despite its strong performance on Prime Video, Han revealed that The Summer I Turned Pretty would end with season 3, and Chung has teased an emotionally turbulent conclusion.
Per THR, Jackie Chung revealed The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s remaining seven episodes will put the characters through more of a rollercoaster than they’ve already gotten in season 3. Chung also heaped praise on creator and showrunner Jenny Han, stating how well she knows her fans. Check out Jackie’s quote below:
They’re in for more of the roller coaster that they’ve already gotten on with the first four episodes, and I hope they just love watching it. I just hope they have a really good time. I feel like Jenny [Han, creator,] knows her fans, and so I think some of the things that they’re looking for will be there, and then there’ll be other surprises, and so I just hope that they enjoy it and get what they want out of it.
What This Means For The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3
More Drama Is Coming In Season 3
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is set to be the conclusion to the series, and will round off Belly’s tumultuous love triangle. Chung’s tease that the rest of the season is set to bring more drama with it is an interesting observation, and, if true, will make for a more explosive and emotionally-charged end to Belly’s story.
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 1 has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 86%.
While there are set to be numerous book changes in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, the fact that Han is developing from her own source material should give the show the right tonality and narrative consistency. The season could present plenty more ups and downs for its characters before things draw to a conclusion.
Our Take On The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3
The Show Can End While Staying True To The Books
The show is heading toward its inevitable climax, and finding out who Belly chooses in The Summer I Turned Pretty is sure to keep fans engaged until the end. More drama – and twists – to come means the show can conclude in a way that is narratively satisfying, and stays true to the books.
While there might be a desire for more seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Han understands her source material and seems keen to finish after season 3. There are three books in the series, so one season per book feels right, and allows the show to conclude in a way that aligns with the novels, without overstaying its welcome.
