Henry Cavill has finally broken his silence on the injury that has delayed his Highlander reboot by several months. A week after it was revealed that Cavill had sustained a fairly serious injury while training for fight scenes in his fantasy-action movie, the former Superman actor has shared an image of him resting up, in the company of his dog, Baggins, and showed off his heavily bandaged foot. Along with the images, Cavill shared William Ernest Henley’s poem, Invictus – a poem that was written by Henley while he was recovering from having his leg amputated. Thankfully, Cavill’s injury is not that bad, and he will be filming Highlander early in 2026.
One thing that Cavill’s images have inadvertently done is give fans a look at his healthy head of hair that he has grown to take on the role of Connor MacLeod in the new take on the 1986 movie. With filming on the movie now pushed back to January 2026, fans will have to wait a little longer to get their first glimpse of Cavill on set, but this will do nicely for now. While it does not seem like the delay is going to impact the release of the movie, which is currently predicted to be releasing in 2027 but has not had an official date announcement.
Highlander is rebooting the classic 1980s franchise, which starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery in a story of dark magic and immortality, set to a rocking Queen soundtrack. John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski is directing a stacked cast in the new movie, including Cavill, Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang.
‘Highlander’ Is Going to Be a Huge Action Movie According to Its Star
If there is one thing that Stahelski knows, it is how to put together an action movie. Having helmed the John Wick franchise, the director’s take on Highlander looks set to bring the same kind of punishing fight sequences that the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick movies became known for. Someone who is happy to state that is Dave Bautista, who joined the movie as the film’s antagonist.
Speaking to Collider, the former Marvel star hyped up Highlander as a movie that was “so much bigger than the original.” He said:
“I was so blown away by the script because, without saying too much, this is such a great reboot. We’re still paying tribute and giving a nod to the original, but making it new and fresh and exciting, and also just universe-building. It’s just so much bigger than the original. The action is on par with John Wick. I’m afraid I’m going to say too much.”
During the same interview, Bautista shared how he feels he has been chasing the role of Kurgan (played by Clancy Brown in the original 1986 movie) for a very long time.
“This goes back a long time because I’ve actually been chasing this role. I think I probably tweeted about this role, about being the Kurgan, more than 10 years ago… I always loved Clancy Brown’s performance as the Kurgan. I always wanted to be the Kurgan. I don’t know why. There was something magical about that role. He’s the villain I love to hate.”
Highlander is now expected to kick off filming in January, and we can expect more updates once Cavill’s injury has healed and cameras are rolling on the highly-anticipated movie.
