‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Has Been Scrapped for “Foreseeable Future” Following Host’s “Unacceptable” Charlie Kirk Comments

Donald Trump seems to have had one of his greatest wishes come true, as Jimmy Kimmel has seen his late-night talk show removed from ABC following the host’s recent comments in relation to the shooting of Charlie Kirk. Like many late-night hosts, Kimmel has shared his frank and candid thoughts on the matter in the opening monologue of his latest episode, and Nexstar do not want to allow him to do it again. In a statement (as per Deadline), the company said:

“Nexstar’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

During his show on Monday, Kimmel said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”

While Kimmel is just one of several talk show hosts to make some close-to-the-knuckle remarks about the shooting, it seems that Nexstar has taken a firm stance when it comes to Kimmel’s future, and for now, that future does not include a spot on television. 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was charged with the murder of Charlie Kirk on Tuesday.

The Death of Charlie Kirk Has Caused Many Conflicts

Everyone has an opinion on the shooting of Charlie Kirk, and everyone else has an opinion on whether that opinion is right or wrong. The shooting has brought into question when the right to free speech leads to the death of a father and husband, and when those commenting on it are silenced – no matter which side of the conversation they are on.

Social media has been filled with those opinions over the last several days, with both regular people and celebrities weighing in Kirk’s death and what it means to them, to the country and even to the world right now. Yesterday, Jamie Lee Curtis emotionally talked about how, at the end of the day, Kirk was a man like anyone else and did not deserve the fate that was brought down on him, while Michael Keaton took heat for calling the shooting an “irony” considering Kirk’s stance on guns and gun culture.

This kind of incident is always going to get strong, impassioned reactions in the immediate aftermath, and from people openly celebrating to others calling for a civil war in the U.S., there have been many extreme reactions that are still being heatedly debated. With Kimmel the latest to find himself on the receiving end of punishment for his comments on the matter, there is going to be a nervous set of talk show hosts and other prominent people in Hollywood wondering if they could be next.
