With the dreary autumn weather beginning to set in, many of us will be contemplating escaping to warmer destinations for a brief getaway to bask in the sunshine before winter arrives.

However, if you plan your excursion perfectly, you could experience a slice of Mediterranean coastline without ever leaving the UK – by travelling just one hour from a major Scottish city.

Social media users have discovered a “hidden gem” coastal spot that countless people were completely unaware of, located merely 51 minutes from Edinburgh.

This destination has been celebrated for boasting breathtaking ocean vistas and an untouched landscape that remains litter-free and isn’t swamped with holidaymakers.

In a TikTok post, one woman uploaded footage of this remarkable location.

Viewers could easily appreciate the golden sands, crystal-clear azure waters, and magnificent panorama of Bass Rock, an isle situated in the outer reaches of the Firth of Forth.

The footage showcases Seacliff, a private coastal estate in East Lothian, approximately four miles east of North Berwick.

Despite being privately owned, the shoreline remains open to visitors and draws surfers, dog walkers, and families enjoying picnics throughout the year. According to Visit Scotland, vehicle access to Seacliff Beach is regulated through a coin-operated gate.

The coastline also boasts a sandstone harbour believed to be Britain’s tiniest, and if the panoramas of Bass Rock don’t captivate you, you can also admire the remnants of Tantallon Castle.

Seacliff Beach boasts an almost-perfect 4.7 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor, with more than 130 of the 171 reviewers awarding it full marks.

The majority of visitors commend the location’s untouched vistas and immaculate state.

One visitor commented: “The place is lovely and clean, it’s well looked after [and] a hidden gem right enough. If you’re looking for a clean beach and stunning views with lots of history, this is your place.”

Another remarked: “Absolute brilliant beach, seapool with crystal clear water, long stretch of clean yellow sand. [One of the] nicest town beaches I have been to in the UK or anywhere for that matter.”

Users responding to the TikTok clip, nevertheless, were divided on whether the coastal spot should be promoted to others.

Some expressed delight that additional people would experience its magnificence, whilst others contended that alerting more holidaymakers would ultimately “ruining” the shoreline with rubbish.

One individual commented: “I’ve been going here since I was small. We prefer to keep these places hush, or they will get ruined!”.

Another penned: “ABSOLUTELY keep tourists away from good nature spots! So many places have been ruined with litter.”
