Before Will Trent premiered, Ramón Rodríguez had a prediction about how the show would fare once it premiered, and his perception of its success was dead wrong. Rodríguez stars as the titular character in the ABC cop show. He also serves as an executive producer, which means he plays a role in its development.
So, it’s safe to say that Rodríguez wanted Will Trent to succeed from the very beginning. Not only is he the face of the TV series, but he also plays a big role behind the scenes as an executive producer. However, a couple of years after its premiere, Rodríguez admitted that his original perception of Will Trent wasn’t exactly a positive one.
Ramón Rodríguez Was Convinced Will Trent Wouldn’t Last Past 1 Season
The Star Thought The Show Might Not Succeed
During an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Rodríguez pondered his initial thoughts about Will Trent‘s performance before its series premiere. When asked if he believed the ABC TV show would be the success it is today, Rodríguez was honest. He said:
“You never know what’s gonna work and why it’s gonna work. You don’t have control of a lot of things in this business. The one thing I do have control over is my work, what I can bring to it, what I try to do. This is the first time I’ve been on a show that’s gone on for this long from the pilot.
If you would’ve asked me that, is this gonna be the show that goes past one season? I probably would’ve said, ‘I don’t think so.’ And it’s nothing against the show, you just don’t know. It took a minute for me to be fully convinced, but I’m so grateful that they were willing to continue having conversations with me and that they were really willing to have me on as a partner because that was important to me.”
Rodríguez evidently wasn’t getting his hopes up about Will Trent getting renewed for a second season. Thankfully, he was wrong, but his prediction made sense. It might’ve been negative, but it was realistic. A lot of network TV shows don’t garner high enough ratings during their first seasons to warrant second ones. However, Will Trent wasn’t one of them.
Will Trent’s Ratings Are Increasing With Every Season
The ABC Series Is Only Getting Better With Age
Will Trent was a success from the get-go. That was an achievement to celebrate in and of itself, but then something miraculous happened. The TV series’ second season’s ratings improved upon the first season’s viewership totals. And one year later, Will Trent season 3 continued the trend by accumulating even higher ratings.
Most TV shows experience a decrease in their ratings over the years. But for Will Trent, its audience keeps on growing with every passing season, which is essentially unheard of. If this trend continues in Will Trent season 4, ABC will undoubtedly keep on renewing it, proving Rodríguez wrong about how long the police procedural will run.
How Will Trent Season 4 Can Continue Building The Show’s Success
Season 4 Is Under A Lot Of Pressure To Continue Will Trent’s Upward Trend
Will Trent has proven itself throughout its first three seasons. Its quality only improves with time, with each season better than the last, which says a lot because its first season was captivating from beginning to end. So, it’s hard to see that changing. Unfortunately, Will Trent‘s rare TV trend puts a lot of pressure on season 4 to keep it going.
The good news is that the show has all the tools it needs to succeed. The writers are fantastic, the cast is beyond talented, and the stories never fail to shock and awe the audience. As long as the series retains all these positive qualities, Will Trent season 4 will be a resounding success.
Will Trent season 4 will premiere in January 2026.
