Selena Gomez‘s character, Alex Russo, appears to be dead after dropping a bombshell revelation to Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown). Once the internet erupted over the dramatic scene, David Henrie, who plays Justin Russo, shared an optimistic note with fans.

What Happens to Alex Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?
By the end of season 2, it’s revealed that Alex is actually Billie’s mother and that she cast a spell on Billie to erase all her memories of their family. Lord Morsus is Billie’s grandfather and has been looking for her since childhood. In the finale episode of season 2, Morsus forces Billie to open a portal between the human and dark magic worlds.
Does Alex Russo Die in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2?
Fans freaked out at the sight of Alex tearfully hugging Billie “goodbye” before decking Lord Morsus into the portal that connected the mortal world and the dark magic world. Based on that scene, it looks like Alex is either dead or lost between the two worlds fending off Morsus.
Before season 2 dropped, David warned fans that it was going to be a dramatic ride. He commented under an Instagram post, “Yall this season is gonna be 🤯. I highly recommend watching in order cause this baby builds and builds until the jaw dropping finale comes in like a wrecking ball. Buckle up.”
Is Alex Russo Dead in Wizards?
It looks like Alex could be gone for good, but David reassured fans that she might be back at some point. Is Selena Gomez Leaving Wizards?
No, Selena has not indicated that she’s leaving the show permanently. After all, she’s an executive producer on the series, so as long as Wizards continues, Selena will be part of the production in some way.

It’s still unclear how Selena plans on returning, though. As long as the show is renewed for season 3, viewers should see her character, Alex, come back, as David teased there’s “a lot more to come.”
