Jeremy Strong’s Post-Succession TV Return: 9/12 On Paramount+

Jeremy Strong’s much-deserved follow-up to Succession is finally here. Since the ending of Succession in 2023, Strong has yet to appear in another TV show. The reason for this is Strong’s continued work in movies, including his upcoming role in The Social Network‘s sequel.

Despite the acclaimed movie projects Strong is starring in, his absence from TV has been a disappointment. Strong’s work as Kendall Roy allowed many of Succession‘s best episodes to shine, meaning the desire for the actor’s continued TV work has been prevalent for the last few years.

Finally, a new Paramount+ show starring Jeremy Strong has been announced, providing the actor and his many fans with what will hopefully be a worthy follow-up to Succession.

Paramount+’s 9/12 Show Gives Jeremy Strong His Succession Replacement

The show in question is titled 9/12 and will focus on the aftermath of the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The show will be a six-episode limited series with Strong at the center as a lawyer named Jason Smith. In 9/12, Smith sets out to secure justice for the first responders to the September 11 attacks.

Although the core concept of 9/12 is very different from that of Succession, Strong’s work on the latter can aid his performance in the former. Succession focused a lot on the legal battle and in-house fighting between the Roy siblings and their father about the status of their family company, Waystar Royco.

The legal battles in 9/12 will be very different, by focusing on finding justice for those who deserve it, as opposed to the selfish gain of the incredibly wealthy characters in Succession. Nonetheless, this similar setting marks 9/12 as a solid follow-up to Succession for Strong.

Jeremy Strong’s 9/12 Character Is Inspired By Real People

While Strong’s character, Jason Smith, is fictional, he is based on real-life people who fought against the corruption and greed of the legal system against the backdrop of the 9/11 attacks. This provides a key difference to Succession, in which all the characters were fictional with few real-life inspirations.

This will allow Strong to play a very different role from the one he played in Succession. As a long-awaited TV follow-up, this is for the better. Seeing Strong play a more benevolent character, only likely with the same legal-savvy ways as Kendall Roy, will make his return to TV all the more exciting.

Combining that with a story that Strong himself described as being about “justice, about the restitution of human dignity and about the real-life heroes of this country,” the actor’s return to the small screen after Succession remains highly anticipated.

In recent months, two notable legal dramas have been announced as part of Paramount+’s new regime, since Paramount merged with Skydance. Strong’s 9/12 is one such show, with the other titled Discretion. The latter stars Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, who play characters working for a Dallas law firm.

Fanning plays an associate who discovers a batch of secret NDAs leading to a dark truth, putting her in the crosshairs of her former mentor, Kidman’s character, who is the firm’s most powerful partner. Of these two shows, 9/12 is in a much more advanced stage, with filming set to begin in 2026, ushering in Strong’s follow-up to Succession.
