Sabrina Carpenter hosted this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live. After a delay due to a college football game, the singer finally revealed the inspiration behind the cover of her album, Man’s Best Friend.
In her monologue, Carpenter displayed the controversial photo of herself. She explained that everyone misunderstood what the photo was supposed to be. She humorously said that the person grabbing her hair was just Bowen, who was helping her up after Martin Short shoved her while she was standing in a buffet line. She then showed a zoomed out version of the image, where it showed Yang standing next to her, pulling her hair. It also showed Short on the other side of her.
It was just this me on all fours with an unseen figure pulling my hair,. But what people don’t realize is, that’s just how they cropped it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a picture from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen (Yang) helping me up by the hair…” The image zoomed out further: “…after Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line.
Carpenter also spoke about how she wanted to clear up any “misconceptions” about her as a person. She stated that while a lot of people believed that she was just a singer who was too obsessed with sex, there is so much more to her than that. The pop star jokingly said, “I’m not just horny. I’m also turned on, and I’m sexually charged. And I love to read. My favorite book is the encyclopedia. It’s so big and it’s hard.”
In any case, Carpenter made it clear that, “There is a real person underneath all the sparkles and the wigs and the corsets.” And, with that, she segued into one of the most infamous things that she does at her concerts, the “arrest.” She went to the audience and interacted with many men who were in attendance.
However, before she could make her arrest, Saturday Night Live veteran Keenan Thompson showed up to end her monologue. It concluded when he told her that she was in trouble for impersonating an officer over two hundred times at her concerts before he ultimately revealed that he just wanted a cameo.
Saturday Night Live airs new episodes every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT (unless there’s a college football delay) on NBC.
