This new Netflix film just became required viewing for The Night Agent fans, bridging the gap between seasons 2 and 3. Following season 2’s run earlier this year, The Night Agent season 3 has already been filmed and is in post-production, heading toward an expected early 2026 release date. Given the divisive responses to season 2, the Netflix action thriller will be looking to right its wrongs and win back fans. Gabriel Basso returns to his leading role as Peter Sutherland, but co-star Luciane Buchanan is sitting the season out.
Gabriel Basso has become a Netflix mainstay with roles in titles like Hillbilly Elegy and Trigger Warning, on top of his leading role in The Night Agent. While his career hasn’t taken off to movie stardom just yet, Basso is finding his way into big movies and is becoming a recognizable name. The Night Agent season 3, especially considering the absence of his co-lead, will be a major opportunity for him to shine.
Gabriel Basso Stars in ‘A House of Dynamite’

A House of Dynamite is one of the latest Netflix releases, directed by Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker). This is a massive movie with an alluring premise about the horrors of nuclear warfare, and it’s already sparked conversations online from film fans, political commentators, and even the US Pentagon. For The Night Agent fans, the major appeal will be Gabriel Basso’s supporting role. The young actor joins the ensemble with movie stars like Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Clarke, Greta Lee, and more.
This is undoubtedly the biggest project Gabriel Basso has been a part of so far, and he absolutely shines among some of the most talented acting veterans in the industry. He brings his usual charm and youthful sense of optimism to a film that desperately needs it, balancing out the enormously high-stakes scenario with courage and hope. Basso plays a supporting role, but he has no less screen time than some of the movie’s biggest stars, and he’s given some of the strongest material.
Of course, given the political thriller genre, it’s easy to make parallels between Basso’s character and Gabriel Sutherland. He’s a heroic character who’s willing to defy orders to do the right thing, seeing what his jaded superiors can’t. While high-ranking generals and politicians seek practical but cynical solutions to the film’s nuclear threat, he takes a humanistic, trusting approach. For The Night Agent fans missing Peter Sutherland, this is the closest they’ll get until season 3.
