Former talk show host Wendy Williams is preparing for her courtroom appearance. The case involves her lawsuit against both Lifetime and A&E for their Where is Wendy Williams docuseries.
Although Wendy was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023, a judge has ruled that she can still testify at the trial.
Wendy Williams is preparing for a deposition in a lawsuit over a docuseries
In preparation for her court deposition, Wendy has begun “intensive training sessions,” according to RadarOnline.com. Those close to her are convinced that a good showing will help discontinue Wendy’s court-ordered guardianship.
Wendy’s legal guardianship, which oversees her finances and health, was put in place in May 2022. After Wendy’s financial adviser alerted the bank of her “unsound mind,” Wells Fargo froze her bank accounts. The bank then petitioned a New York court for financial guardianship, stating Wendy was at risk of being exploited financially. However, Wendy repeatedly denies that she is cognitively impaired.
An insider familiar with the case said, “She knows this deposition is everything. If Wendy comes across as sharp, strong and totally in control, it could show she’s capable of making her own decisions again,” per the article. A different source says the preparation involves “working with legal coaches, memory specialists, even medical pros. This isn’t just about a lawsuit – this is about freedom.”
On September 15, a judge issued an order to extend the stay of the legal proceedings against A&E Television Networks while Wendy’s guardianship case is reviewed. A joint letter must be submitted by November 5 that updates the court on the case’s status.
This past August, Wendy insisted on taking another dementia test, saying that her previous results “were manipulated to make her look worse than she is and keep her locked away.”
Wendy is currently residing in the memory care unit at Coterie Hudson Yards, a New York City assisted living facility. Her floor is locked, and she can only leave with permission from her court-appointed guardian and the facility.
