Many morning show viewers are wondering why Al Roker has been mysteriously absent on The Today Show. The last time the popular weatherman appeared on the show was on October 14, and he has been missing from the program since then, with meteorologist Dylan Dreyer stepping in to fill his spot. With the length of his absence, some are concerned about Roker’s health, given that he has struggled with several serious illnesses and conditions over the last five years, including blood clots in his legs and surgery for prostate cancer.
What happened to Al Roker on The Today Show?
Al Roker looks to be safe and sound. It looks like his absence on Today is due to him needing to take a much-needed break from the NBC morning show.
In an Instagram post on October 24, the weatherman shared a time-lapsed video of the trees changing colors in autumn. “I have always appreciated #fall as one of the more underrated seasons,” he explained. “I try to breathe deeply and appreciate it. A chance to recharge and reinvest in yourself and those around you.”
After wishing his followers a good weekend, he gave an indication of when he would return to the show. “See you next week on @todayshow,” he wrote.
While he hasn’t appeared on Today on Monday, October 27, he should come back some time before Friday’s Halloween episode. The anchors on the morning show have a habit of dressing in humorous costumes for the special occasion.
Since posting the video of the fall foliage, Roker has shared other photos of him voting, exercising, sitting by the fireplace, eating some pan-seared lamb chops that he cooked himself, and complimenting his wife Deborah Roberts’ new book.
Al Roker was also absent from the show in the middle of August. Away for a week, he decided to go on vacation with his wife to Italy where he also celebrated his 71st birthday.
