Baldur’s Gate 3 is packed to the brim with secrets, but after playing the game for 2,000 hours, you’d expect to have uncovered most of them. It’s also spent years patching up the biggest bugs and exploits, removing a variety of interesting glitches that players could use to their advantage. Even so, it’s still possible to uncover surprises, and one player just realized how to take advantage of an odd mechanical quirk.
Reddit user Acceptable_Account_2 shared their discovery of a Shadowheart weapon duplication glitch, which they refer to as one of the “dumb tricks” that are possible in-game. After casting invoke duplicity, Shadowheart can disarm her illusory copy to duplicate her equipped weapon. Acceptable_Account_2 gained a second Spellsparkler out of this discovery, but notes that using it for monetary gain might not be worth the hassle.
Weapon Duplication Is A Versatile BG3 Trick
Acceptable_Account_2 isn’t the only player to have unlocked this Baldur’s Gate 3 secret, and lazyefiris shares an even more efficient variation for PC players. It’s a little trickier, but with the right timing, illusory copies of weapons and gear can simply be dragged into the character’s inventory.
Other players are coming up with plenty of valid uses for the trick, which is helpful when multiple copies of the same weapon could benefit the whole party. Apprehensive_Ant8395 proposes a “full squad of barb throwers” equipped with
Returning Pikes, while Detective_Yu has a more grounded approach in mind, proposing opportunities for dual-wielding good scimitars and rapiers thanks to the duplication glitch.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Plenty Of Interesting Exploits
While there are certainly fewer opportunities to exploit Baldur’s Gate 3 now than there were at launch, some have actually been left in intentionally. Larian Studios prioritizes patching exploits for the punishing Honour Mode, but some that are more fun than deleterious are allowed to persist on lower difficulty settings.
It’s still probably better to avoid exploits during a first playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, as breaking the immersion of the incredible world and story might lose more than it gains. For those who have spent 2,000 hours in-game, however, new tricks can freshen up the experience in fun ways.
Although major updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 have concluded, there’s always a chance that minor patches or hotfixes in the future will affect current glitches and exploits. If you want to take advantage of the invoke duplicity trick in Baldur’s Gate 3, you might want to do it sooner rather than later, just in case.
