Intimate scenes on screen can be highly uncomfortable, but for Florence Pugh, sometimes a director’s request goes too far.
The Academy Award nominee has been in her share of sex scenes throughout her career. While she understands that, as an actress, making risky choices is a part of the business, there is still a line. Florence recalls one time when she believed a line was crossed.
Florence recalls a time when she was asked to do a lot more than she was comfortable doing in a sex scene. “It was just completely inappropriate to have asked me to do that, to have directed me in that way,” she said.
Florence has had her share of steamy scenes on screen in films. Oppenheimer and We Live in Time were among them.
Florence Pugh has spoken of her experience on movie sets
She may be used to intimate scenes on camera, but Florence says the direction from intimacy coordinators can vary. “I’m having fantastic experiences with intimacy coordinators,” she said on The Louis Theroux Podcast. She adds that for her, “there are good ones and bad ones.”
While not all of the ones she’s worked with have been great, Florence tries to take the experiences from the good ones. By all accounts, those people have been a huge help to the Thunderbolts actress when doing intimate scenes. She says she’s learned through them how effective such a scene can be if done right.
The actress adds that she is confident and happy in her skin. Florence may get a break from sex scenes in her next two projects.
Her upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, is a Marvel flick which comes out next month. She’s reprising her role as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Three, which is currently filming. It is set to release in theatres in December 2026. Debbie Harry who was the lead vocalist for the band Blondie recently said she’d like Florence to play her in a biopic.
