Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 Leaving Xbox Game Pass In November

Some of Square Enix’s best RPGs are leaving the Xbox Game Pass catalog later in November, which could feel like a serious detriment to the value of the membership. There are still new titles being added to the service. For example, a few days ago, Winter Burrow was added to Xbox Game Pass as a day-one release, offering players a cute and cozy new survival game to play through.

While new titles are added to the catalog consistently, every month also sees some removals. This month, both Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 are leaving the Xbox Game Pass catalog. There hasn’t been an official announcement on Xbox Wire yet (at the time of writing), but both Square Enix RPGs are seen in the Leaving Soon tab on the Xbox Game Pass website, indicating that this is the last chance to play them via the service.

The RPGs Will Be Removed Before The Release Of Octopath Traveler 0

Without the official announcement on Xbox Wire, it’s still unclear when the games will be removed. However, with their inclusion in the Leaving Soon tab, it’s very likely that these two Octopath Traveler games, which are some of the best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass, will leave at the end of November, as part of this month’s Wave 2 changes to the catalog.

As such, it’s probable that you only have a few more days to play Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 without any extra fees on Game Pass. Curiously enough, their removal from the catalog will likely happen just a few days before the release of Octopath Traveler 0, a new entry in the series that will deviate a bit from the franchise’s traditional narrative formula, instead allowing you to take control of a custom character.

Octopath Traveler Is One Of Square Enix’s Best RPG Series

The RPG Franchise Has The Gorgeous HD-2D Treatment

While Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are some of Square Enix’s strongest and most popular RPG series, Octopath Traveler is just as good as many of the installments in those series, and has already made a big name for itself. The titles in the Octopath Traveler series are turn-based RPGs with a gorgeous HD-2D art style, which not only pays tribute to classics but also gives them a modern-looking treatment.

In Screen Rant’s review of Octopath Traveler, for example, we call the game a “modern classic JRPG” as we praise its gameplay and narrative. The same type of praise was raised for the sequel, Octopath Traveler 2. These games have remarkable characters, each with their own story arc that connects to the main campaign.

These RPGs are fairly long, so if you want to be up-to-date for the arrival of Octopath Traveler 0 in December, I suggest you start playing Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 as soon as possible. They aren’t necessary for the understanding of the upcoming game, but they are gems on Xbox Game Pass that will soon leave.
