Shocking MCU Theory Explains Why Doctor Strange Will Join Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday

Doctor Strange could be the one to know the answer to how Iron Man and Doctor Doom might be connected in Avengers: Doomsday, thanks to a Marvel Cinematic Universe theory. Ever since Robert Downey Jr. was announced for Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, several theories and rumors linking both of his Marvel characters have emerged. That was, of course, to be expected.

After all, Marvel could not simply bring back the biggest actor in the MCU’s history and expect fans not to try and explain his return to the franchise as Doctor Doom through a multiversal twist that connects the villain to Iron Man. While other actors could play two characters in the same franchise, as has happened in the MCU, Downey is too recognizable.

As such, numerous theories have tried to explain the connection between Tony Stark and Victor von Doom. However, given that the MCU has yet to reveal any concrete details about Avengers: Doomsday‘s story, we are still left with many questions and no answers. Now, a new MCU theory attempts to explain Iron Man and Doctor Doom’s MCU connection, and Doctor Strange enters the mix.

Doctor Strange Is One Of The MCU Heroes With The Most Multiversal Knowledge

When it comes to the MCU as a whole, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki does have more multiversal knowledge than Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. That is clear, as Loki traveled through different realities and timelines, now serving as the protector of the multiverse. However, as far as movies go, Doctor Strange takes the first place.

Not only did he bring multiverse characters into the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but Stephen Strange explored many universes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Marvel hero learned the secret behind dreamwalking, how Doctor Strange was a threat to the multiverse, and what incursions, which are crucial to the upcoming Avengers movies, are.

MCU Theory – Doctor Strange Knew About Doctor Doom In Avengers: Endgame

According to an MCU theory shared on Reddit by user MarioManRandySavage, the MCU’s Secret Wars is an Ouroboros, meaning it is destined to repeat itself. When Doctor Strange looked through all the possible outcomes of the Avengers’ fight with Thanos, he would have seen Downey as Doctor Doom, leading to the destruction of the multiverse.

Thinking both were one and the same, Strange set the path for Iron Man to sacrifice himself, believing that Doctor Doom would never come to be. However, they are different people, with Strange joining Doom in his quest when they meet. If Secret Wars is an Ouroboros, Doom must win so that the multiverse can eventually be reset. This time, not with Kang winning.

Will Doctor Doom And Iron Man Be Connected In The MCU?

While it was announced that RDJ would be playing Victor von Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, he just has to be connected to Iron Man in some way. With the multiverse introducing the concept of variants, having Downey return to the MCU could easily be explained by that concept.

Additionally, the Russo Brothers told The Times that they could not talk about Iron Man’s death because it is “part of the story” of the MCU’s next Avengers movie. As such, the characters have to be connected in some way. If Doctor Strange knew about Doctor Doom, and it influenced Stark’s death, as the MCU theory suggests, then it would connect to the Russos’ comment.
