Standing at a towering 6’3″ and built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse, Reacher lead Alan Ritchson is tailor-made for a big comic book movie role. But while many have spent the last several months fancasting the action star as Batman in James Gunn’s rebooted DCU, there is an MCU role that one Marvel icon wants him to take.
Ritchson has been one of the clear fan-favorites for the role of The Dark Knight alongside David Corenswet’s Superman for some time now, but with the actor having already experienced life in the world of DC thanks to roles in Smallville and Titans, isn’t it high time he came over to the Marvel universe instead? This is certainly a sentiment shared by comic writer David Michelinie, who already knows exactly which supervillainous role Ritchson is perfect for.
Speaking recently with TheDoctorX11, Michelinie double down on his desire to see the Reacher star black-suit up as Venom in any upcoming Spider-Man sequel. “I asked David Michelinie, Co-Creator of Venom, what actor would be a faithful Eddie Brock and I suggested Alan Ritchson. Here’s what he said,” began the good doctor, which Michelinie replying…
“I once posted pics of Ritchson—shirtless and one of him yelling—and said he’d make the perfect Eddie/Venom. So we’re on the same page.”
Would Alan Ritchson Make a Good Venom in the MCU?
Clearly, Michelinie is set on Alan Ritchson stepping into the role of Eddie Brock, aka Venom, with the actor bearing a striking resemblance to how the character is portrayed in the comics. The symbiote that would come to be known as Venom first appeared in 1984, and while the character has appeared in both animation and live-action over the years, Venom is now best-known for being played by Tom Hardy in a trilogy of movies released as part of Sony’s ill-fated Spider-Man universe.
However, with the Venom franchise now seemingly over, and the chances of Hardy’s version coming face-to-face with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being slim, it might be time for a new iteration to take shape. And who better to slip into the monstrous villain role than Alan Ritchson? According to Michelinie himself, there is no one better.
While seeing Ritchson reject the DCU in favor of the MCU is sure to disappoint some Batman fans, the actor has now ruled himself out of the running when it comes to depicting the next Bruce Wayne. “Well, it’s not rumour that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely,” the Reacher star said in August. “I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”
More recently, in November this year to be a little more precise, Ritchson said he was hoping for a “messier” role in the DCU. And, while it may not be DC, is there a role much messier than Venom? While we wait to see what Ritchson’s comic book future holds, the actor is all set to return as Jack Reacher in Reacher Season 4, which is expected to hit Prime Video in 2026.
