Marvel’s 2026 Slate Will Usher In A New Era For The MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will enter a new era in 2026, as proven by specific projects from its slate. As far as upcoming Marvel movies go, the MCU is reaching another endpoint. The story of Avengers: Doomsday is releasing in December 2026, setting up Avengers: Secret Wars and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.

This already marks a massive year for the franchise, as Marvel’s 2026 movies begin the end of one saga and lead into another. However, there is also Marvel’s TV efforts of 2026 that signal a turning point. Several MCU TV shows are also coming in 2026, proving that the franchise is entering a new era in more ways than one.

2026 Is The First Official Post-TV Overhaul For Marvel

Marvel Studios’ TV productions were in somewhat of a flow state between 2021 and 2023, though this led to some issues. The stall in production during the industry strikes of 2023 allowed Marvel Studios to take a look at some productions, including Daredevil: Born Again. Evidently, Marvel’s higher-ups did not like what they found, leading to a complete overhaul of the franchise’s TV side.

Gone were the days of six-episode limited series led by a head writer, replaced by a more traditional TV structure involving writers’ rooms, showrunners, and longer episode counts. Despite this taking place in 2023, 2026 will be the first year in which Marvel’s TV releases will be completely post-overhaul.

Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies were the last of the pre-overhaul bunch, which Marvel released across a six-month period in 2025. In 2026, Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and Vision Quest will begin the post-overhaul era.

These shows were all constructed after the change in direction, allowing Marvel to showcase what effects the overhaul had. This makes 2026 a big year for Marvel Studios, both in terms of movies and the new direction of the MCU’s small-screen efforts.

What Does The Future Hold For The MCU’s TV Shows?

All of this raises the question of what the future holds for the MCU’s TV side of things. 2026 includes three big shows, with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man also continuing the animated stories on Disney+. Beyond these, though, no other MCU shows have been announced going into 2027.

This marks a big difference from the pre-overhaul slate, which was continually being added to with new TV stories based around a variety of MCU characters. In 2026, more news will likely be provided about which MCU stories will be told on Disney+ and which will be theatrical.

Clearly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering a new era, especially on TV, an era that could be hugely exciting, thanks to the changes implemented by Marvel Studios’ overhaul.
