One Missing Game Awards Reveal Is Still Nowhere To Be Found

Aside from showcasing the best that the industry has to offer each year and celebrating countless talented creators, one of the most exciting aspects of The Game Awards is all the highly anticipated announcements that get revealed each year. While there were plenty of brand-new projects and unique sequels to look forward to in 2026, a few surefire games were still nowhere to be seen.

Even if there was the annual hope for getting blindsided by the infamous Half-Life 3, some entries had way more evidence pointing towards them than others. Thankfully, aside from a few baffling announcements, The Game Awards didn’t disappoint this year, with offerings like Control Resonant and even a new Divinity game. All the same, I can’t help but be let down by the absence of this one highly anticipated remake.

The Game Awards Had Plenty To Offer, But Still No Black Flag

A Disappointing Turn Of Events For Assassin’s Creed Fans

Despite all the stars aligning for what could have been one of the best announcements at this year’s Game Awards, Ubisoft’s upcoming remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was shockingly nowhere to be seen at the event. Given that this is the last major gaming event of 2025, it’s unclear when the next big opportunity will be in the following year.

Aside from missing out on the chance to raise awareness for the franchise at one of the biggest yearly events in gaming, the absence of Black Flag raises concerns that the remake project might not be nearly as far into development as previous rumors have suggested.

While the Black Flag remake will likely be another major success for Ubisoft without the added hype, given that it’s still one of the best entries in the series despite releasing over a decade ago, it still feels like a majorly missed opportunity for the studio.

Even if Ubisoft hasn’t given an official word about the development or release of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag‘s remake, it’s easily been one of the studio’s worst-kept secrets for years at this point.

To make things even worse, a recent leak by PEGI that revealed the name of the project made it seem like the Black Flag remake would be coming much sooner than we thought, with The Game Awards being an incredibly likely candidate for a trailer.

With the last rumored release date being set for March 2026, it’s unclear if Ubisoft is still aiming for the same launch target for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. At least we can take solace knowing that the project is still well underway despite the lack of official announcements.
