Disney+ Is Now Streaming One of the Most “Gruesome” & “Disturbing” Horror Movies of 2025

One of the wild things about Disney slowly phasing out the Hulu app is that a lot of movies you wouldn’t expect to be streaming on Disney+ are now being shown alongside family classics. Case in point: the House of Mouse is now home to what critics called one of the most gruesome and disturbing horror movies of 2025, so when you’re done watching Snow White, you can check out this bizarre body horror film that left a lot of people feeling sick.

Titled Together, the film stars Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple who move to the countryside to rebuild their relationship, but instead encounter a mysterious force that causes all sorts of unspeakable things to their bodies. Written and directed by Michael Shanks, Together is a fresh take on the body horror subgenre that blends emotional drama along with strong visuals to create something entirely unique that critics went nuts for, mostly due to the strong chemistry between its two leads, who are married in real life.

Boasting a Certified Fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, Together has been called everything from “unsettling” and “disturbing,” to an “immediate audience-grabber.” While it wasn’t a runaway hit at the box office by any means (it made $34.5 million), it was definitely a strong introduction for Shanks, who made his feature-length directorial debut with the movie. Dubbed “one of the best genre films about romantic relationships in years” by MovieWeb’s own Britt Hayes in her review, the official synopsis reads:

“Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie (Franco and Brie) find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.”

Audiences Were More Critical of ‘Together’

While critics were blown away by Together’s original premise, strong performances, and visual effects, audiences were a little more critical of the film. That’s not to say they didn’t like it, they just didn’t love it. Holding a strong Popcornmeter score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, some believed that the blending of romantic drama and body horror didn’t work as well as they thought it would. As such, those critical of the movie felt that Together was uneven in its tone, making for an inconsistent film.

Those that did like it called Together the “best body horror movie since The Substance,” “not what I expected,” and a “captivating five-star thriller.” For what it’s worth, we definitely believe it’s a movie that horror fans should see at least once, if for nothing more than its gnarly effects that will, at times, leave you speechless. We won’t spoil things, but there’s one scene in particular where Brie and Franco find themselves in a precarious sexual position that’s burned into our brains forever. Yikes!

Together is now streaming on Disney+, and look for Brie to star next as Evil-Lyn in Masters of the Universe, and Franco to appear in the Pixar sci-fi action comedy, Hoppers.
