Dom Lucre, the conservative commentator who goes by the name ‘Breaker of Narratives’, has sparked a great controversy with his claim about the harassment campaign initiated by Somalis and a request for total separation of African Blacks from American Blacks. Lucre states that the alarming messages started to come in when his video clip got lots of circulation and, thus, he argued that he created a new debate between the two nations having distinct cultures and getting their history differently.

Lucre, in a lengthy video, presented a vehement dispute which has become a bear trap for the internet discussions around race, immigration, and identity. He asserted that the Black Americans had no connection at all with the recent matters around Somali immigrants or other African groups. He charged the ‘liberals’ with a misleading political strategy which he considered to be both dishonest and damaging that is, according to him, they turn the supporters through their tactics.

Lucre said in the video, ‘Black people have nothing to do with what’s going on with Somali soda,’ using a colloquial term. ‘They are always trying to push these Somalis, these Africans, these Sudanese… these are not black people. It is not black at all.’ He pointed to the historical and cultural differences even to the extent of physical looks and the discourse was that African immigrants are sometimes resentful of America which native Black Americans do not share. Lucre concluded his argument with an eyebrow-raising declaration: ‘It is time we SEPARATE from these people.’

The reaction of the social media users to Lucre’s post was quick and divided, thus reflecting the polarizing nature of his allegations. A lot of people sharing the same view, the users were raising a similar demand for the separation backwards to Lucre. Aron Gibson was one of those users who not only supported the separation but also brought in religious aspect: ‘100%. Also, American Black people are Christian. These africans are Muslims. They have nothing in common with American values or beliefs.’ Another commenter, who was simply referred to as Paul Bozant, summed it up very briefly: ‘They are NOT US!!!’

Worries about Lucre’s security were one of the most prevalent concerns expressed by the users. One user by the name of Jackie wrote, ‘Holding you in my prayers for safety,’ while another user, Katie, said, ‘You know you are doing a good thing when criminals are unhappy with you.’ Some of the comments shifted the focus from nationality to religion. A user with the name Shld/_Kate contended, ‘We don’t have a “Somali” problem, we have a Muslim problem! Once you start tackling this from that angle the picture becomes clearer.’

Conversely, there was also a considerable amount of feedback that was very critical of Lucre’s stance. One detractor, El Dude, assailed him for being the one who provoked divisions and now is lamenting over losing control of the situation: ‘You sold your soul to help stir up a bunch of racial hatred. Now that you are seeing that the people you pedaled your lies to don’t see the difference between you and those you’ve been vilifying. So now you’re trying to make yourself “one of the good ones.” Please stop ruining America.’ Another critic, Mark, delivered a personal attack: ‘This ni99a thinks he is white.’

Doubts about the credibility of the threats also circulated. A user named Medium John Studd disregarded the statements, saying, ‘Using fake death threats to hype up your bullshit videos is lame as hell. This is the reason you are not (and never will be) taken seriously.’ Another did to what they consider a wider political strategy. A user named Ungravenimage said, ‘I get a constant stream of you MAGA drifters daily… The idea seems to be get a bunch of black people who are willing to spout this information.’

Amid the arguments, there were a few comments that sought to draw a connection between the oppositions. Tina Allen gave an insight on unity, saying, ‘What MANY people don’t get is that the majority of white and blacks get along just fine until outside influences insert themselves into our relationships… We were united before, during and LONG AFTER the agitators move on.’

Dom Lucre’s video and the following harassment claims have put him right in the middle of a heated culture conversation. The case exemplifies the still existing friction around immigration, assimilation, and the intricate definitions of Black identity in America. While Lucre presents his communication as a much-needed clarification to safeguard Black Americans against being wrongly associated with others, his opponents consider it to be a dangerous and divisive rhetoric that increases the already high racial tensions. The argument which is being supported by social media shows no signs of dying down as these foundational questions about community and belonging keep on being challenged. Dom Lucre recently made headlines with a viral video that raised safety concerns. His growing profile was further cemented when he received a White House press badge for an upcoming event and after a visit to Trump Doral Miami.
