Donald Trump defies doctor’s orders as he opens up on health side effect | US | News

Donald Trump has revealed that he denies his doctor’s orders and takes a massive dose of a certain drug in an effort to combat cardiac issues. The stunning detail emerged in a recent interview, in which the US President shed light on his physical health, including comments about his decision to undergo a cardiovascular and abdominal scan last year.

Indeed, among the revelations was that the 79-year-old takes a daily dose of a common anti-inflammatory drug for the purposes of “cardiac prevention”, according to his doctor, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella. NHS advice states that the usual dose of aspirin to prevent a heart attack or stroke is 75mg per day, but Barbabella claimed that Trump takes 325 milligrams.

He admitted that the hefty dose had led to him bruising easily and that his doctors had urged him to take a lower one, but Trump reportedly turned down the suggestion because he’d taken it for a staggering 25 years.

Trump told The Wall Street Journal: “I’m a little superstitious. They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart. I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”

In further comments about his high dose, the MAGA leader added: “They’d rather have me take the smaller one. I take the larger one, but I’ve done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.”

The NHS says aspirin can help in the prevention of strokes and heart attacks in those who are at high risk. Doctors sometimes recommend a daily low dose for people who’ve suffered from either of these health conditions.

It may also be suggested for pregnant women if they’re at risk of high blood pressure, have preexisting health issues that require them to take aspirin, or they’ve had a number of miscarriages or pregnancy complications in the past.

The drug makes an individual’s blood “less sticky”, according to the health service, with people often taking a dose of 75mg, although it acknowledged that sometimes, this can be higher.

Mayo Clinic guidance notes that the dose can range between 75mg and 325mg, and the risk of these cardiac issues rises as you age, but the risk of bleeding from aspirin “goes up even more”.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Trump’s health has made headlines, however. In October last year, reports surfaced that the US President had undergone a “routine yearly checkup” at the Walter Reed Medical Centre in Bethesda, Maryland.

In a one-page memo, Barbabella stated:”President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and physical performance.”

He reportedly also received a Covid-19 booster vaccine and his yearly flu jab. In the recent Wall Street Journal interview this month, Trump added: “Genetics are very important. And I have very good genetics.”
