Apple is once again testing background security updates in the iOS 26.3 and macOS Tahoe 26.3 betas, reinforcing its push toward protection between full software releases.

Apple testing new background security updates

A second Background Security Improvement is now available to developers and public beta testers running iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3. The update installs outside the normal OS update flow and focuses on Safari, WebKit, and other underlying system libraries.

Background Security Improvements can be installed manually through Settings under Privacy and Security, or applied automatically if the option is enabled. Users who skip them still get the same fixes later as part of a standard software update.
