The holiday season has already been marked by the release of a hilarious and chaotic video of the musicians all playing the singer’s favorite Christmas song with home-made instruments, the latter by Jimmy Fallon and the Jonas Brothers, their very own home-made instruments. The humorous video that saw the light of day on December 1 created a special and somewhat crazy musical moment for the audience made up of the three and Fallon who ushered the public through.

December 1st usually signifies nothing but the putting up of home decorations, whether big or small, and maybe one hearing a classic carol here and there. Jimmy Fallon had a different plan. Literally, he decided to wake up everyone he could by teaming up again with Nick, Kevin and Joe for a loud holiday jam. While the four appear in the video, it looks like they are banging on the bottom of a block or table, thus using that as a percussive instrument, singing along to the melody. The atmosphere is more ‘rock concert in your living room at 7 a.m.’ than ‘Silent Night’. Although the video mainly revolves around sheer fun, it also reflects the true nature of Fallon’s brand of comedy and the Jonas Brothers’ unwavering dedication to any bit of this feature.

The online reaction was straightforward and was marked by the delightful bewilderment that was to be expected. ‘Why does it seem like these guys are on Jimmy Fallon like 8 times a month?’ was the remark of one user regarding the continuous appearance of the Jonas Brothers, and it was indeed a legitimate observation and a good beginning of a thread of funny replies among which was one pointing out that Jimmy is ‘securing his place to become the fifth Jonas brother.’ Another simply stated, ‘correct and I love it’, which is a nice way of saying that the union of these two pairs is always embraced.

Fans from all around the world shared their colorful views. A Spanish-speaking commenter wrote, ‘Los bailes de Camp Rock han sido actualizados, hahaha,’ drawing a very good connection between the brothers’ Disney Channel past and present. Another one expressed, ‘How did they convince Nick to do this?’ implying the often quieter Nick than his brothers’ loud and riotous personalities. Yet another user wrote, ‘Nick’s faces in these videos are gold,’ highlighting the role of the visual humor that was involved.

In the comic acting of the performers, there was never a dull moment, there was always a facial expression to back it up. However, many were also looking at Joe Jonas who was wielding a long stick like a martial arts weapon with great skill. ‘Who gave Joe Jonas weapons?’ a person questioned feigning to be very shocked while another one commented, ‘By the end of the video, Joe Jonas was really dodging for his life.’ This created a picture of a skit that was almost getting to the point of a full-on slapstick fight scene. Meanwhile, Kevin Jonas was also getting his share of applause, a user saying, ‘Kevin is representing Mortal Kombat and I am loving it.’

Despite the humor being there, a gentle stream of holiday spirits was also. The official Disney+ account commented, ‘The only way to wake up December 1!’ Others told how much they were thankful for the group’s over-the-top silliness. ‘I love whatever’s wrong with you all,’ one fancier said, a sentiment that was echoed by another saying, ‘I love how much you all love Christmas.’ The reminded that the video was, in its heart, a celebration of the season’s joy.

The video being a promotion for the just-released festive song ‘Coming Home This Christmas’ was not lost on viewers, and the ‘Fallon Tonight’ account was among those highlighting it in the comments. However, the publicity was no match for the immense attraction that the video had to offer. One user summed it all up so well, ‘Dios, cómo les explico a la gente que esto es lo más normal y menos cringe que han hecho’ – which translates to ‘God, how do I explain to people that this is the most normal and least cringe thing they’ve done.’ In the world of Jimmy Fallon and the Jonas Brothers, normal is a relative term and it is better to start the first of December with a loud and cheerful and super weird bang. The video also brought to mind the recent Machine Gun Kelly and Jonas Brothers release of a surprise collaboration. In a similar vein of comedic musical partnerships, Jimmy Fallon and Charlie Puth recently parodied modern slang. Another memorable Tonight Show moment featured Ben Stiller bringing back his iconic Blue Steel look. The stage has also welcomed performances like the national television debut of the Chess musical with Lea Michele. Finally, the spirit of hilarious costume mashups, such as the one by Kristen Bell, shares the same fun energy.
