Little Mix Star Jesy Nelson Reveals Heartbreaking Diagnosis for Her Baby Twins

Jesy Nelson has revealed some medical news about her twin daughters. In a recent Instagram post, the singer said her babies have been diagnosed with a potentially fatal genetic disease. In the emotional video, she explained that without proper treatment, “your baby’s life expectancy will not make it past the age of two.”

Jesy Nelson revealed her daughters have a severe rare muscle wasting disease

Jesy, member of UK girl band Little Mix, announced that her baby twins were born SMA Type 1. The consition is also known as Werdnig-Hoffmann disease. It causes severe muscle weakness and breathing and swallowing issues.

In a tearful video, Jesy explained that the first sign was the babies’ lack of movement in their legs. But she wasn’t initially worried, as they’d been born 31 weeks premature, and she’d been told to not compare with other babies.

She went on to say that it took her and her partner Zion months to gain a diagnosis. She said of the heartbreaking news: “When they assessed the girls at Great Ormond Street, we were told that they will probably never be able to walk. They probably will never regain their neck strength, so they will be disabled. So the best thing we can do right now is get them treatment and just hope for the best.”

Jesy added that her daughters have been receiving treatment, which she is “so grateful for, because if they don’t have it, they will die.”

The singer ended on a hopeful note, adding: “I truly believe that my girls will defy all odds. And with the right help, they will fight this, and go on to do things that have never been done.”

She explained that she was making the video to spread awareness of the condition.
