A new trailer has been released for the newest Netflix original series, Detective Hole. The show, which is based on a hit crime novel series written by Jo Nesbø, is set to be the streaming service’s latest detective thriller. Playing out as an exciting and intense serial killer mystery, Detective Hole will take viewers to the streets of Oslo, with the trailer highlighting the protagonist, Harry Hole, as he attempts to catch a serial killer while also having to deal with his fellow Detective Tom Waaler, a corrupt officer who works on the opposite side of the Law, constantly putting him at odds with Harry.
Tobias Santelmann, who will lead the series as Harry Hole, provided a statement via the Netflix website Tudum about what it means for him to bring the character from the page to the screen, saying: “Stepping into Harry Hole’s shoes has been a tremendous honor and thrilling challenge. Nesbø’s world is so rich and Harry is a truly complex character. I’m thankful for this opportunity, and I hope the audience will enjoy our Harry Hole. Bringing him to life, and working with everyone involved, has been a true privilege.” This first trailer does a great job of highlighting all the detective’s humanity and flaws, which is sure to be a big selling point for the upcoming project.
Joel Kinnaman, known for his work on The Suicide Squad and the Apple TV series For All Mankind, stars opposite Santelmann’s Hole as Tom Waaler. Aside from the string of killings that Hole has to contend with, he also has to navigate his strained relationship with Waaler, whose methods and moral ambiguity will undoubtedly lead to intense confrontation between the two. Detective Hole also provides the actor a chance to showcase his linguistic skills, as he is not only fluent in English but also Swedish and Norwegian, the latter of which he will be speaking in the series.
‘Detective Hole’ is Netflix’s Next Big Crime Novel Adaptation
Øystein Karlsen, who is a director and executive producer on the series, told Tudum about the intersection of genres that Detective Hole offers, calling it “a great mix of a fast-paced whodunit and a genuine drama with real people and lives the viewer can relate to — and it has more twists and turns than I can remember having seen in any thriller series.” The genuine excitement and passion from everyone involved in the project is palpable in just this short trailer, and will surely be a great addition to Netflix’s massive catalog of TV titles.
The original author of the novel and showrunner and creator of the series, Jo Nesbø, meanwhile, talked about bringing the novel to life on the small screen (the character was adapted for the big screen with Michael Fassbender, but the less said about that, the better), saying that “It’s been just great working with Tobias Santelmann and creating a character that is fresh, still true to the character and his universe in the novels. I’m really looking forward to presenting this Harry Hole to the audience.” All nine episodes of Detective Hole will premiere on Netflix on March 26, 2026.
